sextonseven said: November 6th: ALICE SMITH at Mercury Lounge. A month ago, I honestly didn't know who Alice Smith was. Then after seeing a full page article in SPIN and hearing some myspace samples, I'm at a sold out show in the cramped Mercury Lounge with other believers. The first thing I noticed is that her figure is tall and slender as I watched her walk onstage. What suprised me the most however, was how genuinely funny she is. I'm not talking about comedienne telling jokes-funny, I'm talking downright goofy. She had the crowd laughing so much between songs with her body language and awkward comments and observations. But most important of course was her voice. Backed by a drummer, bassist and guitarist, her voice soared to peaks and valleys framed perfectly in a classic rock/soul vibe that you don't hear too often in these conventional times. No one specific song stood out to me as they all sounded fantastic although I was surprised and excited to hear her cover of "Alone" being a closet Heart fan. It will be a crime if Alice doesn't make it big.
Setlist: Woodstock Gary's Song Dream New Religion Know That I... Love Endeavor Have A Heart Fake Is The New Real Desert Song encore Alone (Heart) Do I 55 minutes I know her!! I have her cd (thanks to CalhounSq raving about her) I really like her music, but I hadn't even thought to look her up and see if she'd be peforming in my area at some point! Now watch, I'll probably find out she was here last week or something If you will, so will I

No wonder you were dehydrated (partying too hard) but I'm glad you're better. and let me tell you, I was listening too The Bomb (phones edit) last night and I swear I almost had a coniption They are pretty sweet, I'm gonna check this record store downtown tonight to see if I can find their album
I haven't heard that Phones Edit yet. I wanna check that out. This is the second time I got dehydrated in less than six months. The first time was bad because I got dehydrated in combination with screaming too much [yes, this actually happened *DEAD*] and ended up being really out of it for a week. Yeah, let me know if you get your hands on the NYPC album -- we can get a discussion session going, definitely. P.S.: No, it wasn't @ the Calvin Harris show. LOLLL! ... [Edited 11/7/07 21:16pm]

Definitely see if she's passing through your city. Live she's no joke.

I just saw Feist last night in Seattle and she was great!!! She did a mix of both albums and she sounded great.
I don't know if I just have bad luck at concerts in Seattle, but every concert that I've been to, the audience is sitting almostthe entire show. My row stood up last night during 1234 and the people behind us complained that they couldn't see and we were in the 7th row.

I thought there was an extra track on the rerelease, but when I looked at the tracklisting for the old album, it's exactly the same. I know there were supposed to be extra tracks when it was announced that the album was going to be rereleased on a major, but the songs were just remastered.

And I was the one who told you about it, right?! I got the whole band to sign my vinyl cover. I saw Stevie Wonder last month and 3 Crowded House shows a few weeks before that. They're my two favorite acts and they certainly didn't disappoint. It was a phenomenal month for me. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

thekidsgirl said: I'll kick things off by saying that last night I saw VAN HUNT live at the Black Cat in DC and it was such a great show!! He had us dancing all night and he's quite charming and funny too!
It was at a small club so me and my bestgirlfriend were right up front. Van is a sexy man and he likes to jam, so we jammed with him He played stuff off both albums plus the not-yet-released album (though, thanks to the crazy audience the man couldn't stop laughing through 'You're a Monster'! ) after the show he was so cool, he met with the fans (I hugged him TWICE!!!-but my silly ass doesn't have a camera ) and he really hung out for a while I him! GREAT SHOW now your turn! SHARE God bless youtube and whoever the owner of this nice-ass camera is for taping and posting the whole show!!! If you will, so will I

I just finished up two nights of Ben Harper in LA. Had great seats and the band was tight all night. Ben showcased his new album Lifeline and some songs from earlier in his career.
First night he did covers of "Use Me" (Bill Withers) "Breakdown" (Tom Petty) and sang a tremendous original "Where Could I Go" off-mike a capella at the edge of the stage and the whole place was shushed up. It's pretyy awesome. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...dV0VyI2-KM Second night he featured "Use Me" and brought in "Hoochie Coochie Man" (Muddy Waters)[video link below]. The center piece was a hardcore funk throwdown of his tune "Whipping Boy" done as a power trio (gtr bass and drums) with that head-noddin' sweat-drippin' kind of funk. The finale was also spectacular his blended tunes "Like A King" and "I'll rise" ending with a standing power fist salute.
