To the admiration of a generation, Jay-Z led an incredibly storied career in the rap industry, pulling himself up by his bootstraps as a youth to one day become the reigning rapper of New York City and then a major-label executive following his retirement from music-making. More than anyone, Jay-Z embodied the ultimate rags-to-riches rap dream, advancing from poverty to power, largely on behalf of his lyrical talent coupled with incredible dedication. Following the Brooklyn-born rapper-turned-president's 1996 debut his albums sold millions, and his endless parade of hits made him omnipresent on urban radio and video television.

If you can afford it, go. Ram's Head is a really cool venue. Can't say I really like Jay as a live act- he is blocking the quality that is out there. He has improved. I walked out on midway through his early concerts, but stay now for the guest stars. Caution; He may be using B'more as a warm up for NYC.

Just looked at my watch-this is definitely sold out by now

It is too much. Plain and simple.

I would pay that if the venue was like a stadium, and if it was a full band.

Wow, well I'm guessing tickets are that expensive because he's only doing around 5 or 6 shows in total. If you're a big Jay-Z fan though then I guess it would be worth it but for me it's overpriced. I personally would not spend that much money to see him live.

I was this _ close to seeing Jay Z in concert.
When he and R Kelly were doing that tour together, I bought tickets for my daughter and I, she wanted to see Jay Z and I wanted to see R Kelly. I ended up giving my ticket to my daughter's friend when Kells bailed on the show. From what my daughter and her friend told me, Jay Z really put on a very good show.

Never been to a Jay Z concert and I'm not sure what his show is like, but he seems like the kind of guy that would do a decent amount of his hits, which would be cool to see live...but I don't think I've ever paid $100 for any ticket...I think I paid less than that see Madonna in 2001 (nosebleed seats, though, but front and center!).

I know this much....$11 is too much to pay for his album. It best be $9.99 or it's staying on the shelf. I never even really listened to the last one and I bought that one it came out!

NO rap concert should cost a 100 bucks, period !

This is not what rap is about, especially when you promote it as "Marcy presents.."

How many younger listeners in Marcy can really afford a 100 bucks for a fucking rap concert ? It´s not like they have gigantic trucks and equipment to pay for.
I gotta admit though , Jigga is one of the few rappers I can respect, I like his attitude, he´s very smart and articulate, doesn´t come across like all those "Nahmean ? " "Nahmsayin? " mofos in most interviews, is a shrewd businessman and I like his calm, cool way. But 100 bucks ?
No .

They can't charge a bill if they have no equipment? I don't think that's the test. I've seen many shows with flashing lights and no substance. You better charge 100 bucks in Baltimore if you want a certain element. His NYC show is only 50 bucks. I wish I could take some orgers to some real hip hop and see if they still hate it as much as they do now.

I´ve seen many, many great rap shows, and I originally come from a Hip Hop background, so maybe you misunderstood my criticism.
And of course, the substance of a good rap concert should not be some flashy lightning etc. I was merely trying to say that 100 bucks is not a justified price for any rap concert, or any other concert, unless there are huge costs that have to be backed up.
With one dude on stage and a couple of his homies and hypemen walking up and down , I don´t see why anyone would want to pay 100 bucks to see that.
Busta Rhymes did a great show over here years ago, before he was even famous but it was a bit short ( not even an hour ) and he charged something like 25 US $, legendary Tribe Called Quest also came over here and got on stage totally fucked up, weeded and drunk and could not even rap their own lyrics properly and charged waaay too much for that kind of bullshit, Kurtis Blow, Sugarhill and GM Flash did a show and lipsyched to some Melle Mel classics, and the list goes on and on...

Luniz from the Bay Area pretended to do a show over here...they just sent a few of their homies who are also on their album cover and they pretended to be the real Luniz, when in fact Luniz weren´t even in the country...just a couple of fools pretending to be them.

Jay Z is cool , he did a great show in Berlin years ago but still, a 100 bucks for this show ? That´s not what Hip Hop is or was about.
One of the best rap concerts I ´ve seen was Ice-T with his whole Rhyme Syndicate entourage waaay back in the 80s in his heyday, and he charged very little money and gave us one of the tightest rap concerts ever, full of energy. Sure , these days Ice sucks ass, but that show was great.

100 bucks for a rap concert ? That´s ridiculous. lol

Yea, maybe I misunderstood, but this a club show with a artist who is hot right now with men and women. That is rare for Hip Hop. Some of the greatest times are being in a club as opposed to a concert venue. Keith Murray at his recent BB King show was great-playing to maybe 70 people. Folks pay more than 100 bucks for so called VIP. Plus, I did mention that you gotta price some people out. B"more is like South Jamaica used to be. Charging 100 will make people think twice about rolling in there 20-30 deep. If anyone goes, let me know and I will report on the NYC show.

"Unplugged" is pretty amazing, actually. I dug that CD as a companion piece to "Blueprint", which I also loved....after that, he started to lose me a lot even though I tend to continue buying his new proper releases (none of the shit with R. Kelly or Linkin Park)

I paid $150 to see him last year and let me tell you, it was worth EVERY.SINGLE.CENT.

He is INCREDIBLE live. Seriously, i'm not that into his music but damn, he blew me away. The chemistry he has with the fans is something I don't think I'll eve experience again.

Try and get as close as you can.

He does these awesome acapella raps where he just goes on and on and on without any assistance at all and the bass was INCREDIBLE. You can feel your whole body vibrating.

I'd go and see him again anyday for the same amount or more. wink

And to reply to someone who said he'd have others rapping over him - nope. At the concert I went to he had one other dude to cover for him if he got out of breath. The rapper, I think his name was Memphis Bleak, sounds a lot like him so it still sounded fine.

He has a lot of audience interaction too and raps a love song to a selected member of the audience.

He also did tribute songs to Aaliyah, 2Pac, Biggie and Jam Master Jay.
