One of my favorite clubs in NYC - Great place to see anyone play. I'm there at least 4 or 5 times a year, depending on who's playing. Great sound, and good access to the performers and the stage. Mature crowd: People are there to party and have a good time .

Yeah.. I love this place... seen a lot of great shows there.
Rick James Teena Marie going to see Cherelle and Alexander tonight and the best part about this place is that it's only 5 express train stops from home

I was just there to see, Boys II Men. I was very surprised at how good they sound. I am really not liking that venue, thought. Maybe it because it is standing room only. I hate places like that. Anyhow, they sang most of their old hits and somethings from their new CD. It is an album of old Motown covers. It was a good show. It was A CONCERT! (Dayum, times must really be changing, LOL) And actually, they have tables and seating around the perimeter (as do most nightclubs), but of course it costs more to sit there (higher drink minimum), plus the need to tip your waitress. But there is seating. (But again, it's A CONCERT!) I meant to go to that show. Happy to at least hear you say they performed well.

I've seen a few metal shows there where the crowd isn't so mature. Then security gets a little antsy. I'll be at the Van Hunt show next week.

Saw Tower Of Power there a few years ago. Decent sounding room.
The seating/standing arrangement is probably determined by the act that's performing. At the TOP show, I had a table damn near on the stage. One thing's for sure, the NYC booker does a much better job than the L.A. equivalent. ( Lately they never seem to have anyone I really want to see when i'm in town) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I didn't think of that, I bet it DOES make a big difference depending on who the main performer is or what they're about.

I actually saw the Time there. Surprisingly the food wasn't that good and the crowd wasn't that lively, which was ashame because they rock it that night.

I saw The Time at B.B.s also. Maybe the crowd was preoccupied with their steaks and that's why they weren't lively. Being served dinner while the band is onstage is wrong.

I'be been there several times. It's great!
All the shows I've been to there is seating on the main floor all the way to the stage, plus the booths around the sides. But some shows now are standing room (and then the booths). I was gonna see Teena Marie but it's standing room so probably wont'. Just saw Stephanie Mills (awesome), and in the past have seen Rick James, The Time and Eartha Kitt on New years.

I'm the opposite in that I won't go if there is seating on the floor. The Time was the only show I've seen there that had seating. All the others had an open floor where you could get up close and personal to the band.

On top of that, they're always transporting their liquor cache in the air and spilling alcohol on folks in the process. Oh yeah, then they invariably have to go into the non-stop *Wooooo!!! chorus. *(I'm guessing that's the "I'm really partying man." signal) If you just have to be up front, get there early and wait it out like everybody else. At general admission shows, there is always one huckleberry and his girlfriend trying to push past me two minutes after the show starts. I take back what I said somewhat in that I went to see Diamanda Galás at the Highline Ballroom this year which had a table and chairs setup on the floor that night. I went with some friends, we sat at a table, ordered some drinks and had a great time watching Diamanda screech and pound on her piano for an hour. I also saw Bebel Gilberto at Blue Note a few years ago which, if you know Blue Note, has a similar setup and again, I went with friends, reserved a table, this time actually ordered dinner and couldn't really complain at all (we finished dinner before the show started which is very important). So what I'm saying is the whole dinner table thing can work with some artists. The Time isn't one of them. That's supposed to be a get on your feet and sweat-type of show. Not a Jerome walking over to your table and asking you if you know "The Walk" as you shovel a piece of steak into your mouth-type of show.
