You guys are tripping!
Kelis is the shit. The girl can sing (nice smoky sultry voice). It's not spectacular but it MUCH better than the cookie cutter shit that is out. She is a very different artist in an industry where everyone sounds a like. I'm sure she will come back. And she has had many hot songs. Not to mention how she has blessed other songs. Two songs come to mind: N.E.R.D- Truth or dare -damn she blessed that Andre 3000- Draculas Wedding (how can you say she is not fire??!)

Kelis always struck me as an indie R&B artist, so I think this actually best for her. She's an interesting character to wrap around, but I definitely enjoyed her last album. I think the listeners in the UK seem to actually "get her," though. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Kelis will be fine. She's very talented and one of the few artists in the mainstream today I always enjoy listening to "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I've like a bunch of the singles mentioned on here, but the the other day I saw that stupid-ass video where Nas kidnaps her or whatever. It's the most generic song ever, not surprised they dumped her if she was going that direction.

what? This is so unfair.
Can't record companies let their artists evolve. The album wasn't even a complete flop. [Edited 10/28/07 8:36am]

about three years too late. i worked the first Kelis album and the second one that Virgin never released and then Virgin dropped her. OVER-RATED. beautiful girl, but if she wasn't working with the Neptunes there really wasn't much left there. she married Nas, and it's like she tried to change her image to coincide with his and it really didn't work too well. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

third time is charm ? Do you mean labels ? Labels I meant but I can't even figure out how many she has been on....I think she has proved she can sell records with her first and third album...not a lot, though! I think she has certaintly been screwed over quite a lot with record labels. On "Kaldioscope", she was treated well, IMHO. Obivously not with "Wanderland" with no US release! I would have to hear it again, but maybe they had a point by saying it had no singles, but what about "Young, Fresh and New"? "Tasty", I still don't understand. "Milkshake" is a smash and nearly every song was worthy of being a single. A very pop R&B album. "Trick Me" even impressed haters. No follow up for a hit single, even though there were videos...continued in Europe where she is more popular. Same with "Kelis Was Here". It wasn't as good or catchy as "Tasty" but it still had more singles. "Bossy" was a hit (although it's numbers weren't as high or impressive as "Milkshake"'s! "Lil' Star" deserved a shot as a single. WTF. Until she goes indie, I think this will continue to happen, except for in Europe where she is appreciated. If the next album is more pop, it will probably be huge there.

Kelis and the Neptunes was such a great combo. Their best work along with the NERD albums in my opinion was Kelis's first 2 albums. She is really alternative RNB but the problem is that there isn't really such a market and she has suffered as a result. She tried to be the hiphop bitch that she clearly isn't. She is quite popular in Europe and Lil' Star was a big hit here in New Zealand.
Yeah she relies on other's productions but so what! What is MJ without producers.

Still thought Kelis Was Here was a decent album but when she started out with Bossy and Blindfold me I knew it was going to tank. I don’t know if they were pushing that because of the Nas connection or what but there were other tracks on there that fit in well with the music she’s done in the past and what her loyal fans tend to like most from her. No Neptunes and the strong hip hop flavor may have been too much at once. Plus they were just bad songs IMO. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Me either. She has an ok voice. But her material and they way she chooses to use her voice are just confusing to me. If you can sing ... then sing. Don't try to dumb down your voice to sound like Ciara and the rest of those non-singing squeaky voiced chicks just to try and get a hit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yeah she relies on other's productions but so what! What is MJ without producers. Absolutely. Her collaboration with Startrak/Neptunes is what put her on the map and got her the most notoriety especially in the UK and New Zealand. Her material was definitely on point and embodied her spirit. If she doesn't get signed to Ceelo's new label then, she should consider reconnecting with Pharrel and company and sticking with what works.

Cinnie said: I don't get it. If an album flops, shouldn't the label dump the A&R executives/producers?
So true, it's funny. After all, these are the guys who have already approved the album, signed the artist in the first place, given it their blessing by releasing it to the public. The album doesn't sell so well, the artist gets dropped and the people who signed her stay in their jobs to sign/drop even more acts. Crazy. Okay, in any other industry where an employee was 'under performing' they would still be expected to meet certain targets, I'm sure; they wouldn't be immune to getting the sack. But reading this and the Bruce Springsteen thread... it's such a sad state of affairs. As great as it must be to earn a living doing what you love most, it must be so depressing/frustrating being a modern day artist, sometimes.

I like her, but I didn't enjoy the last album. It was boring to me, considering that I always expect too much ffrom her I guess. That "Bossy" song was awful!! and the rest was either underwhelming or just okay If you will, so will I
