Simply Red's Breaking Up

‘Stay’ will be Simply Red’s final studio album and ‘The World and You Tonight’, which is released next Monday, will be Simply Red's final single. Simply Red will disband after their tour in 2009.
"I've kind of decided that 25 years is going to be enough," Mick told the Gold radio network. "I've just recorded an album that is a tribute to Bobby Bland, a blues and R&B artist," he explained. "It's a solo project and I've really enjoyed it - so much that I feel the time has come now to just put a book-end to the Simply Red story."
Mick added last night "I would like to thank all our fans for their wonderful support since 1984."

Thoughts?

It wasn't much of a "band" anyway, right? I mean, more like "Mick Hucknall + bunch of anonymous studio musicians"? hmmm

pretty much. nod

Simply Red is one of my top 5 favourite groups/artist.

i hope a definitive box set comes of this. so many great songs and albums. i'm not surprised aboutthe Bobbly Bland cover, as it seemed he/they were going in the direction of adult contemporary anyway. there album "Simplified" showcased some of their hit songs in a more 'standards' vein. which i love! sad but he's had a good run and not many can say they've had a 25 year run.

they/he will always be one of my favourite regardless!! music

So Mick Hucknall's going to split himself up, is he?

Maybe this is bigger news in England. It's sort of like saying the Knack is breaking up to me, though.

But I did just see them on the Family Guy Star Wars episode.

They had a pretty big hit a few years ago with "Sunrise"....Might have been more of an AC hit. It was also remixed and that sounded pretty cool. It heavily sampled the keyboard in Hall and Oates "I Can't Go For That".

It acutally didn't make the main chart but it hit #5 on the AC and #1 on the dance charts. A cover of "You Make Me Feel Brand New" was AC #10 and Dance #5. Not terrible.

Last Simply Red project I really paid attention to was the awesome Live in London DVD from a few years back when "Fairground" was hot. Great concert!!

Holding Back The Years and their versions of Money Too Tight To Mention and If You Don't Know Me By Now are the only tunes I'm familiar with. confused

i liked "Holding Back The Years"and "If You Don't Know Me By Now." back in the 80's and then didn't really hear anything till the home album came out and i really fell for sunrise

i never really had the image of them as a band though as the focus was on the lead singer
