top 5 overrated acts 1.Radiohead
2.U2 (Downhill All the Way since 'The Joshua Tree') 3.The Rolling Stones (Haven't done anything noteworthy for two decades) 4.Madonna (Daring in everyway except in her music.follows trends in music, rather than sets them.her 80's stuff is far more dated than say Prince's.) 5.Robbie Williams (I'm sick of reading about this guy in the UK papers,Talentless and certainly not the next big thing Stateside.'Rock DJ' sounds about 10 years old already.I can't Believe EMI have thrown $80 million at this guy!) so who are yours?

I think 1989's Steel Wheels was a very good album by the Stones. 4.Madonna (Daring in everyway except in her music.follows trends in music, rather than sets them.her 80's stuff is far more dated than say Prince's.)
Agreed, but ... look out... so who are yours?
I don't really have a list. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

1. U2 - A generally good band, but they've basically had the SAME sound for over 20 years.
2. Paul McCartney - smirky git. Almost as bad as Robbie Williams. 3. David Bowie - OK, I'm not clued up on this guy and you'll all probably jump down my throat at me mentioning him in this topic, but I just don't get why he's this untouchable musical God to critics. 4. Radiohead - A few good songs, nothing spectacular. OK Computer best British album ever? Errm, yeah, and I'm Bananaman. 5. Madonna - I'm a huge fan or her earlier stuff and I think Erotica is underrated, but now it's just pretentious techno. Some tracks on her last album have dated already. Quite a dull personality as of late too. New song sucks, big time!

Robbie Williams - Smug twat, used to be in Take That, the most popular British boy band of the 90s. He left about 6 months before they split up and had various drug problems, started hanging out with Oasis to appear "cool" and released an awful cover of George Michael's Freedom as his debut single in 1996. For some reason, he released the most BLAND song called Angels and it's like a national anthem over here
All he does is pose, take his shirt off, pretend to be Frank Sinatra and wiggle his arse about. All of a sudden he's worth an £80m record contract despite having already been promoted in the US and failing.

1. The Beatles
2. AC/DC 3. Pink Floyd 4. The Beach Boys 5. The Eagles on them all!

Umm where are you getting that from? Their transition from Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum to Achtung Baby is one of the greatest career makeovers in the history of rock and roll. And they're definitely not overrated. Just listen to their work and you'll see.

You're right. You're clueless. Buy his new album and find out what all the fuss is about. He's tackled more styles more successfully than Prince. And he's started more shit than just about anyone. That's why he's a legend.

I'll tackle it! How can a woman who is traditionally not rated very highly be overrated when she has succeeded in completely transforming society and influencing virtually everyone who succeeded her? [This message was edited Sat Oct 12 19:11:09 PDT 2002 by Moonbeam]

there isn't an issue. In 30 years time, nobody will be talking about how she shaped music or brought new ideas to the table. As a celebrity, she is second to none and i'll admit she has done really well for herself on such limited talent, and she's turned herself into a powerful business woman.this is what will be discussed. I'm talking musically. She is lacking.Who's the next hot producer? She'll be there, whoever it is.

She opened doors that no one else could. Want an example of someone you wouldn't think was influenced by her? Liz Phair. Yes, Liz Phair. She has mentioned that "when we saw 'Lucky Star,' my friends and I saw OUR star." Her music doesn't sound like Madonna, but the influence is acknowledged. Futhermore, anyone who is known for videos owes a lot to Madonna as well, who helped to transform it into an artform that transcends the music itself.

She also has a keen knack for picking the hotest producers and paying attention to what's hot in the clubs. That's how she keeps up with the biz and stays on the charts. Her first hits came from copying the sounds she heard in the 80s club scene.

Madonna is primarily a dance music artist and she listens to dance music herself. So,it's only natural that she would keep up with what's "hot" in the clubs. That's HER scene, too, you know.As for picking the "hottest producers" to work with...William Orbit and the unkown Mirwais weren't exactly Top Ten producers when she chose to work with them.In the 80s,she worked with Steve Bray,Shep Pettibone and Patrick Leonard and neither of these guys were exactly household names when she chose to work with them. It's hilarious watching people try to "rationalize" her success.Perhaps she stays on top because she actually makes music that her fans WANT to hear?

1.Eminem-funny for the first 5 minutes but after the minimal shock value wore off had nothing interesting or original to say
2.Jay Z-All downhill after Reasonable Doubt, had a brief return to form w/ The Blueprint, but judging by that terrible track w/ Beyonce has returned to champagne poet banality.A great artist ruined by massive success. 3.A Tribe Called Quest-Mediocre lyrics hidden in amazing musical arrangements 4.Ja Rule-Everything that is wrong w/ much of current hip hop.Derivative watered down studio gangster. 5.Mariah Carey-A technically amazing voice w/ no real opinion or personal point of view, didn't have to resort to being a pop product but chose to anyway Honorable Mention: Bilal-The least talented of the current crop of neo soul acts. Just plain boring.

Ahh c'mon now Bilal is the shit. I pick him anyday over today's R&B cats(Mario-B2K-Jagged Edge,,, etc etc etc).
Ok: Bitchney-Well, I can give her the credit of her beauty,,,oh there's more?? Ja rule/Ashanti and the hole Murder Inc-UGH UGH UGH!!! Madonna-'Sigh' I'm just sick of this bitch Elvis-The CUTEST white man on earth but why don't ya'll bring Jackie Wilson instead?? [b]Prince[/b--The top 5!!!

Alicia Keys. I'll believe the hype when I see that she can actually live up to it.
Ashanti. Pretty face, but no vocal talent at all. Justin Timberlake. Again, pretty face, but no vocal talent.
