RipHer2Shreds said: You kiddin' me? You're far from the only one - I've started about a dozen Dolly threads. One of my favorites since childhood. Very few voices move me like hers does. To me, no other country artist compares. She got a lot of flack from country purists for her pop leanings in the late 70s/early 80s.
There are very few artists as prolific as she is; she's written and published over 5,000 songs. There are lists of songs she wrote and performed here: http://www.dollymania.net/songs.html I came across this clip a few weeks back. Great cover version http://www.youtube.com/wa...POv5i0kKFQ ... [Edited 10/24/07 14:16pm] I've started a many too.... Conway Twitty too But they get ignored

I LOOOOOVE Dolly Parton.
Laugh if you will, but she is a true artist and has written some of the most beautiful songs. She sings like a lil country angel and there will never be another like her. I'm firmly planted in denial

And according to Dolly, she's made $6mil off Whitney's version. Dayum, old girl is gettin' paid!

I loved it when Dolly went gangsta on Dabney Coleman in "9 to 5", and threatened to get a gun and turn him from a rooster to a hen with one shot. Bad-ass Dolly.

i think its only in recent years with her directing her attentions toward bluegrass again that its become more "acceptable" to recognise this womans talent. Outspoken, always sincere and honest, and a stunning voice that you never see mentioned in these shiteous polls for "greatest voice" or whatever, for reasons I can only imagine.
I dont think ive ever seen anyone play guitar with acrylic nails like those - a talent in itself. What is most clear about Dolly however is her songwriting ability. I find it funny that a song she wrote is probably more famous and appreciated than she - her being larger than life and almost beyond famous, but i think that alone is testament to her true god given talent. Also, anyone hear how she refused ' I Will always love you' to Elvis because he demanded songwriting royalties in return for singing it? Integrity to boot - what a woman.

I love Dolly Parton. She has a brilliant voice and would have to be one of the most down to earth people around.
Can't wait for her new cd, which is due in February. I have never had the chance to see her live here in Australia, but it is said she will be touring Australia along with the US and europe next year. I can not wait for that. I love her live dvd and have wanted to see her live for years.

I love her.I love her voice,,,,,its really moving sometimes, she does have that melancholy quality in her voice(once you get past the flamboyant image) and beside, she's a helluva storyteller and lyricist.

I saw Dolly in concert back in the early 80's and have been a big fan since. I don't usually like country singers, but Dolly goes way beyond country and her lyrics are amazing. She's a true talent.
