Well, a start doesn't look like someone who fell out of an Abercrombie and Fitch ad, slipped up on an Old Navy commercial and fell straight into the GAP. Justin couldn't be more ordinary. Dude is GENERIC. JD is right. There are Justins all over the malls.

Hell, even his name is dull and plain. I mean, "Justin"? Have we really got popstars called "Justin" now? Back in the day if you were born with a name like that and you wanted a career in entertainment you'd have to change it in double quick time and pray no-one ever found out. The best I can say about this choirboy-gone-wrong is that his name, looks, voice, and personality all match each other perfectly.

Not all talent has been wrapped in fly gear and weirdness so I'm not going to buy into that Justin has to have a cool name and some odd looking clothes.

Justin is regular and is just a studio creation.

For me, it's the overall package. His name and looks are just emblems of what an unremarkable person he is in general, and that's reflected in his work. Look how he's casting around so shamelessly for an identity. First ripping MJ, now ripping Prince (even hiring all P's old musicians for godsake). That's because he has nothing of his own to offer, and that's because he is such a generic person in general.

When someone is all over the media (and paid millions of dollars) the message being sent is "This person is special. This is an exceptional individual", which is why Justin's unremarkability is an issue. Now if he was a great singer or something then I wouldn't even mention it, but he's not, so you have to say there's hardcore b.s. at work when a non-entity like this is ruling the roost. Now to be fair, there are other non-entities like Janet who have been celebrated too, but at least their averageness was hidden behind their distrinctive looks.

At the end of the day, his music is boring, his falsetto is weak as hell (listen to Prince, MJ or Wayne Cooper from Cameo for a real falsetto), he dresses boringly, he acted like a punk towards Janet, he comes across as an arrogant asshole, and his career will be done within 2 years. thats all there is to it.

Who is that? Jeff Jarrett and ? I've never seen Jarrett do an Outsider's edge before.

Oh yeah what you should of made reference to the Nasty Boys thinking they were in the NWO back in '96 before Hollywood punked 'em "I never said that" then the Brothers beat 'em down.

I knew I shouldn't of started with this wrestling shit... I could go on for days and days about it.

like i'm going to waste my intellect and logic on a discussion who's highlights are "justin doesn't even sound like a rock star's name" and "justin timberFAKE" for the millionth time. it was LAME the first time it was used, and it's STILL lame.

people in here who have NO talent whatsoever, feel compelled to speak on someone who obviously does, because (and here's the kicker) it's somehow "defending Janet Jackson's honor".

RE-TARD-DED.

and i'm officially done with this topic.

I tried to find one sentence in this post that wasn't wrongheaded and I couldn't do it. Where to start? Okay, first of all you made a point of saying before how none of us know Justin. Well, guess what? We know a lot more about Justin than you know about us, yet that doesn't stop you from saying no-one here has any talent. I think you'll find there are actually quite a lot of musicians and dancers on the org, many of whom could wipe the floor with Justin. Or are you so naive as to think the distribution of wealth and the distribution of talent are the same thing?

Then you talk about "defending Janet Jackson's honour". Are you serious? Janet is a talentless liar who has no honour to defend. We ain't talking about her stanky ass, we talking about The Dork. The Dork's name and looks are only mentioned because they reflect his overall plainness. They are only emblems of his mediocrity. Look up the word emblem and then you'll be released from this mire of confusion you're obviously stuck in. Adios.

maybe the reason why you couldn't find it, was because you didn't read any of YOUR threads on this ridiculous topic.

i'm not the president of the Justin Timberlake fan club. not by any stretch.
if you don't like his music, fine.

i've enjoyed both of his albums. WAY more than anything Prince has put out since TRC. (yeah, i said it) (actually there's a ton of stuff before TRC that wasn't better either.)

and i can separate artists who are primarily singers and performers and not judge them because they don't play 2000 instruments. coughkoolaidkidscough.

my objection to this dumb arse topic is this.

people that have decided they don't like JT and his music because of....

A) some perceived "diss" that JT did to Janet "my career was tanking on it's own anyways before tittygate" Jackson.

or

B) some perceived "diss" that the Purple Midget sent as a result of "SexyBack" being a huge hit and the fact that some of the music on JT's album MAY have sounded a little "Prince-ish".

If you fall into one of these two categories you are.....

A) a moron.
B) a sheep.
C) choking on the purple kool-aid.
D) all of the above.

furthermore, i'd like all of the people who are SO freaking critical about how "unremarkable" Justin's name is for a popstar to list THEIR name.

i'll start. mine's Benjamin. i'm not a popstar. i guess if i were i'd have to change my name to Romeo Blue or something like that to get taken seriously from some of you. (oh wait, Lenny Kravitz decided that wasn't a good idea and ended up being a popstar anyways? hmmmm.)

I think Justin Timberlake is boring and mediocre not because of a devotion to Janet Jackson (I think she is a mediocre talent as well), nor because he has "stolen" his sound and moves from Michael Jackson and Prince (both past their prime). Nothing about him stands out to me, musically or performance-wise. And I used to love NSYNC as a child. He is a mediocre singer and dancer, with little stage presence.

But I do like several of his singes from his first two albums. I can like some of his music without having to like him as an entertainer -- same goes with Janet Jackson, and co.

if that were the primary subject matter of this thread, i wouldn't have a problem with it.

i disagree with your opinion. i think he's an above-average dancer and commands the stage quite well.

i'm not going to get into the "stealing moves" thing because Prince borrowed heavily from his idols, why look down at Justin for doing the same thing?

sure we can!

and i really don't pay attention to that. i liked both of his albums. i liked his collabs with the Neptunes, and i'm really not a Neptunes fan. Or i should clarify that i'm not a Pharrell fan. and i was worried about how JT's sound might change/suffer if he wasn't working with them but him and Timberland took it to a whole other level with the last album and i know that some in here put all of that on Tim but it truly is a collaboration. JT does bring something to the table. there's a reason why he's done MUCH better than everyone else that both the Neptunes and Timberland have worked with so far.

I don't find Justin attractive. A lot of people do, but he's just not my type of "star."

Now I find Johnny Depp quite attractive. And I love his humor and talent.

I find Prince attractive and appreciate his genius.

I find Anthony Keides attractive..

But Justin.. No.. he is not attractive to me.

P.S. I've never really been into all-American type of looking guys.
Justin IS sort of well he's just not attractive.

Now.. I think Apolo Ohno is quite attractive. lol

Sorry, that post was a classic example of what i'm talking about.
You're a self-admitted "janfan". Fine.

So your opinion on JT is entirely based (or at least that's what i'm inferring from your post) on the JT/JJ beef after the Super Bowl.

Which, i'm sorry to say is stupid. No one knows what really went down except for JJ and JT. I've made my feelings clear on the subject. I don't think the titty flash was an "accident" or a "wardrobe malfunction". I think it was planned. And i think when the reaction went badly, JJ tried to throw JT under the bus to deflect some of the heat. When that didn't work, she ended up fessing up and wanted JT to help with that which again after she'd already blamed it on him, for him to do at that point was stupid.

And beyond that, they're both grown ass adults and neither one is responsible for the other careers. They're each responsible for their own. So i dont think JT should have done a THING for JJ. And that's not being a punk, that's just handling YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

So again, that's where i have a problem with all of this "he's a punk" and "Timberfake" crap. It's all based on some need to take up either JJ's or Prince's so called beefs with JT.

Which is R E T A R T E D.

Period.

But I think he's trying to improve.. he is just more into being a "star" than an artist.

Prince, Johnny Depp.. well they're artists: Justin is more of a star.

Not really, son. You're still talking nonsense as far as i'm concerned.
And just because I don't post on every single silly thread on this crazy message board, don't assume that i've only been around for a little while. I've been here for YEARS. I pick my spots in here. There's only a few topics that interest me enough to bother to post, and this just happens to be one of them.

Furthermore, I have a pretty extensive vocabulary so i am familiar with the word "emblem". How about you try to explain how it applies to this conversation?

"his name and looks are nothing but ironic reflections of his plainness."

If you don't like his music, fine. What the HELL does his name have to do with it? It's his freaking NAME!!! There are TONS of artists out there that have done REMARKABLE things with pretty normal names. James Brown?????!!!!! George Clinton???? I mean i could keep going, but what's the point? I already pointed out the Romeo Blue/Lenny Kravitz example. Bringing his name into the argument is just STUPID.

and what's YOUR remarkable name again?

and ditto with the looks. you sound like a 13 year old girl. if you don't like his music, fine. don't. that i can get. when you start judging an artist not for their art, but for their name and their "look"?

And beyond that, they're both grown ass adults and neither one is responsible for the other careers. They're each responsible for their own. So i dont think JT should have done a THING for JJ. And that's not being a punk, that's just handling YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

So again, that's where i have a problem with all of this "he's a punk" and "Timberfake" crap. It's all based on some need to take up either JJ's or Prince's so called beefs with JT.

THAT IS YOUR OPINION.. and I am telling your assumption is WRONG....

maybe your a punk like JT and so thats why your defending him... (YOU ARE SO BIAS, HARD HEADED, and STUBBORN..)

a man leaving a woman out to hang.. and not defending her is a PUNK>. he is scared to stand up for a woman... and THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A SUPERBOWL.. it applies to any situation...

AND justin trying to act "hood" is not cool either... so all those things add up to make him look geeky....

1. he cried on PUNK
2. He is scared to defend a woman
3. He knows nothing about the "hood" but yet tries to be "hood" and looks really geeky
4. He tries to hard to be cool.. and thats NOT cool...
5. All the 4 reason above is why he is a geek..

Sorry, that post was a classic example of what i'm talking about.
You're a self-admitted "janfan". Fine.

So you're opinion on JT is entirely based (or at least that's what i'm inferring from your post) on the JT/JJ beef after the Super Bowl.

Yeah, okay. Which "assumption" is wrong? Be specific. Because little "jan fan" if you're referring to the "accident' at the Super Bowl, we've been over that to death in here. Go find that thread in here where we debated that to death. It wasn't an accident. That's fact. And right after it happened, JJ's people placed the blame right on JT. That's not assumption, that's fact. Janet first lied, and then later came clean. And then after lying about it, and after blaming JT for it, he's supposed to be what? Chivalrous? LOL

right. i don't blame JT one damned but for not coming to JJ's defense. you want to label me a "punk" for that? fine. then i'm a card carrying one. and what's this "man leaving a woman out to hang" crap? "man defending a woman"? what year is this again? 2007? you're really going THERE???? hilarious.

soo you are using 2007 as an excuse to be a punk and NOT a real man..

YOUR assumption is that i don't like JT because of Janet.. and that is wrong.. its because he acted like a lil baby...

i am a jj fan.. and believe that she did that superbowl incident on purpose... it believe it was more her... but JUSTIN showed himself to be a scared baby when he didn't just apologize for participating in the stunt.. HE KNEW what was going to happen... ALL he had to do was apologize instead of PREtending he didn't know it was going to happened...

he looked so scared and weak.. and that is a serious turn off.. I rather see a man say "YES I did it... soo..." then to cry about it... and try to avoid it...

so THAT TURNED ME OFF FROM HIM.. whether it was janet or another woman.. I seriously would have been turned off...

I like men who are strong.. and will stand up.. and not be scared.. and i don't like lil soft guys like JT who hide behind mommy...

why should I like a guy who hides behind mommy, when i hide behind mommy... SO are we both supposed hide behind mommy together????.. or he is going to step out and take charge?????

this is too easy.

1. he cried on PUNK

and??? i'll tell you what. i'll come up with a scenario where we'll show up and your place and have all your shit taken, and you don't know you're being taped and we'll see how "cool" you are about it.

2. He is scared to defend a woman

that's a hell of an assumption, that you're basing ENTIRELY on the fact that YOU think he should have "defended" JJ during nipplegate. When JJ's people were quoted in the press BEFORE THE GAME WAS EVEN OVER that it was a "wardrobe malfunction" which implies that JT did something wrong and was at fault for it. don't care if JJ's got 3 titties and 18 ovaries, i'm not coming to her defense after she lied and blamed me either.

3. He knows nothing about the "hood" but yet tries to be "hood" and looks really geeky

how do YOU know? JT's from Memphis. do YOU know who and where he was hanging out with as a kid? and even that's besides the point. do you know WHO and WHERE he's hanging out with now? and how is he "being hood"? "looks really geeky". nice. how old are you?

4. He tries to hard to be cool.. and thats NOT cool...

good lord. i seriously hope i'm not debating with someone that can't vote. am i?

oh, good lord.
this just might be the saddest/scariest thing i've ever read in here.

wow.

so JT's "soft" for not defending JJ after she blamed him for the whole thing initially. he should've "apologized" for it.

uh huh. gotcha.

and please don't tell me what kind of man you like, because i didn't really want to know.

thanks.

Isel

I'm a janfan, too, and I was pissed regarding Justin's involvement. I think he could have been more supportive, but that's my opinion. I'm over my hostility.. but I was I also pissed about Justin v Prince, too. But I've softened my position on that except there is just something about Justin that looks so.. seedy and sort of whiny. I don't know if those are the right words. He's just not my favorite. But the SB has nothing to do with the fact I'm not into Justin Timberlake. I've never been into Justin Timberlake or N'Sync.

I will say the guy has really trying to grow as a "artist." I really think he's trying to take charge of things and seems to be willing to learn. I just don't think he'll ever be in the same league as someone like Prince or Stevie Wonder--or Johnny Depp. I'm not sure Justin would want to risk failure to really do something more original. He might surprise me...

HE cried for his MOMMY.. he's a grown man.. and should handle his business for him ownself.. i KNOW guys who have lost things and have NOT run to the phone and called mommy and cried... lol you probably would cry to mommy like jt

and NO just is NO where near the "ghetto" he probably NEVER set foot in one... and it obviously shows.. NO ghetto or hood guys is going to cry for mommy

and I not standing up for a woman.. in any situation where you can help.. is just plain being a punk....

yes trying to hard means making a song with 50 cent to look like he is down, and hard.. but really it made him look soft when he was next to 50 cent..

okay, we don't need to communicate any longer.

you're bordering on trying to get personal, and if i decide to get that way in here, it ain't going to be pretty.

so, i'm going to "be a man" and step off.

I was trying to go easy on you with the last post, but it seems you persist in imitating the listening skills of a brick wall. So what the hell. Time for an ass whooping.

ButterscotchPimp said:

And just because I don't post on every single silly thread on this crazy message board, don't assume that i've only been around for a little while. I've been here for YEARS. I pick my spots in here. There's only a few topics that interest me enough to bother to post, and this just happens to be one of them.

I never made any speculation on how long you've been here. I was merely saying unless you've only been here for a short while, you have no excuse for assuming I'm a Janet fan. Now you've revealed you've been here for years you've effectively cut off your one get-out-clause. Although even then it wouldn't justify making blanket assumptions about me.

Furthermore, I have a pretty extensive vocabulary so i am familiar with the word "emblem". How about you try to explain how it applies to this conversation?

Well, since you admit you need it to be explained to you, I'll gladly help you out. An emblem is nothing more than a symbol. For instance the American flag is not America. It's just a symbol of America. The point being made was that it was quite fitting that a dork like Justin would also have such a dorky name. You see the dorky name can be seen as an emblem of his dorkdom. Are you following this? Good boy. Let me add that there was also a slight element of humour in these comments, although it seems you missed it. I'll know in future to remove all traces of subtlety from my posts so you're never left out in the cold again. wink

It's his freaking NAME!!! There are TONS of artists out there that have done REMARKABLE things with pretty normal names. James Brown?????!!!!! George Clinton????

Those names are normal, not goofy. "Justin" is goofy. James is not. And please lighten up. You sound like you're typing this from inside a mental ward.

when you start judging an artist not for their art, but for their name and their "look"?

RETARTED.

I think the word you were trying to spell was R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D, with a D in the middle. Don't thank me for the correction. I'm always glad to help you where I can. As for "judging artists by their art" you can rest assured that's exactly what I always do, but Justin is not an artist. He's an empty piece of plastic posing as an artist. Sorry you got conned.
