When you buy a used CD off Amazon.com. or other sites for that matter, do the artists get residuals on those sales? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I never thought they did. They got the money the first time. At least you can say you're not stealing. The music lives in, even if someone's interest in it has died....

See, my concern is buying new vs used for artists I love. If I buy new, they get $$$. I thought they'd get a cut in used sales to but I guess I was mistaken. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I know Garth Brooks made a big fuss about this back in the day, but obviously no one heard him. cuz we all know garth brooks is hurting for pocket change. i think it's a silly argument, because at some point a CD has to be as much of an "object" or an "item" as it is a piece of art. i mean, should we really feel apprehensive about selling CDs at a garage sale or at a flea market? should we really be mailing off a cut of what we get from used CD purchases at yard sales to the respective artists? if so, how much should we send them? how much does an artist get from a record label per CD sale? i'm guessing not a whole lot. screw it - i think it's JUST FINE for artists to only get a cut of NEW album sales, and it should be at the buyer's discretion if we want to get our discs cheep or spend a few extra bucks to support the artists.

I always thought artists got some kinda compensation for the sale of used CDs! Now I'm shocked, as most of my cds were bought from used music shops Now I feel kinda bad for buying cds by small-scale, indieish artists used ...So who gets the $6.99 thats paid for the cd? If you will, so will I

Just saw a CD by one of my favorite artists (Jill Cunniff formerly of lucious Jackson) and thought that I would buy it new even though there were used discs because I have never bought her CD before and I want her to get a cut. I always thought the artists got a cut too..... I'll have to keep this in mind because I want the artists I love to make a living. ya know?.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Like, if you're an artist that I like, and I want you to keep making music even though the majority of the world may not recognize you talents, I'll buy that cd. But alas, now I see much of my effort has been in vain If you will, so will I
