I Know I Ain't The Only One Who Loves Dolly Parton.... I know I'll spark afew giggles in here lol but I'm serious...
I love her voice,,,,,its really moving sometimes, she does have that melancholy quality in her voice(once you get past the flamboyant image) and beside, she's a helluva storyteller and lyricist.

You can add me to the list of folks who like/love Dolly Parton. I've been a fan for a long time. I've not seen her live, but she is just wonderful in her tv interviews. Of her more well-known music, my favorite is "Coat of Many Colors." For some reason, which I guess is the intent, it never fails to make me at least a little emotional! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

My favorite is her disco song "Baby I'm Burnin". I also like "Two Doors Down", "Here You Come Again", and "9 to 5".
I think I remember hearing a house music song on the dance floors in the 1990s called either "Friendship Train", "Freedom Train" or something like that. It was an ass shaker. She was getting off on that one. As for the stuff like "Jolene" or "Coat of Many Colors".....uh.....NEXT! Hell naw. No way. Andy is a four letter word.

Dolly Parton is my favourite female vocalist of them all. No-one has got a voice like hers. No-one. You can't not love that voice. As a songwriter she's ace too. Totally commercial of course, but brilliantly so. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It sold well because it was tied in with the film, and 'cos it was a disco track. Yuck! Disco! Even the word makes you want to puke. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Dolly's bluegrass albums that were released in the early to mid 2000's are truly amazing pieces of work.

Dolly Parton is immensely talented and much more of an artist than she is given credit for, largely because of her appearance IMHO.
Her lyrics have considerable depth and substance. The music and lyrics to "I Will Always Love You" were written by Dolly Parton. She recorded it originally, and it was later recorded by Whitney Houston. That song is also in the Broadway musical "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".... I do not purport to be a country music fan, but I do have a lot of respect for Dolly Parton. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

You kiddin' me? You're far from the only one - I've started about a dozen Dolly threads. One of my favorites since childhood. Very few voices move me like hers does. To me, no other country artist compares. She got a lot of flack from country purists for her pop leanings in the late 70s/early 80s.
There are very few artists as prolific as she is; she's written and published over 5,000 songs. There are lists of songs she wrote and performed here: http://www.dollymania.net/songs.html I came across this clip a few weeks back. Great cover version http://www.youtube.com/wa...POv5i0kKFQ ...
