Madame X

I haven't seen this mentioned for a while so I thought I just say what a great album this is again.

If this was a Prince Protege album, which it sounds very much like it could have been, It would have been the best. Yes even better than What Time Is It, The Family And Jill Jones.

I love the Madame X album!! It gives you an idea what Vanity 6 could have sounded like if they had survived into the late 80s."I Want Your Body" is wicked! lol That song is outrageous! Bernadette Cooper adds some of the craziest lines....

Uncontrollable desire....passion
chills running up and down my spine
Ooh,I'm losing my mind!
Wild...very very very erotic baby
temporary...Lawd!!

lol

Let's not get crazy now. I do like the Madame X album more than The Family, maybe even more than Jill Jones, but not more than What Time Is It.

Anyone that hasn't heard it, try and find Alisa Randolph's solo album. It's almost like a Madame X sequel.

Indeed,it's a very deep album.Very edgy too.It didn't sound like your typical late-80s R&B album.

Bernadette Cooper left Klymaxx to produce her own Vanity 6-type girl group. Madame X's only album released in 1987 was the funkiest thing I heard that year.

I was so pissed when they broke up! I was eagerly awaiting a second album. In a 1988 interview,Teena Marie said that she was gonna write a few songs for their second album (Teena was close friends with Bernadette). That could have been an interesting collaboration.

Madame X had the absolute best album of the late 1980s hands down. Much better than anything Prince was doing at the time.

I'm glad that didn't happen. Teena would have weakened the project because by the time the late 80s arrived, she was an entirely different lady than the funky one that made jams like "Behind The Groove" and "Square Biz". She was doing more mellow stuff.

"Starchild" was the last full album I bought of her's until 2004 except for the two greatest hits collections from Motown and Epic. She made much better music when she was on Motown and surrounded herself with Rick and The Stone City Band.

I don't know what was on her late 80s albums but all I ever heard from her on the radio was ballads so I didn't bother to buy them. I wasn't going to risk being disappointed if no funk was on there. I also stop spending my money to support people who no longer do funk. lol

how funny seeing a thread on this group again because i was just thinking over the weekend i need to break this cd out. i can't say it enough. Madame X were the bomb! that album is smoking and even beter than Vanity 6's cd imo, though i know may people will disagree. bernadette cooper is sucha great poducer (hey that rhymed, hehe). i also own the alisa randolph cd and it's cool but not quite as good as Madame X which imo is a classic r&b, electro funk album! now i really have to bust this cd out later tonight!

Admittedly, that isn't a good pic of Alisa Randolph. They look better in the "Just That Type Of Girl" video.
