"Live To Tell" is still one of my all-time favorite Madonna songs.

And I absolutely LOVE the conviction with which she delivers "Open Your Heart"

Mostly great videos from this era as well ("True Blue" aside).

This is when the world sat up and said, "Oh shit, this bitch is serious!"

PS: how "Spotlight" was deemed unacceptable to make the cut for this album when absolute crap like "Jimmy Jimmy" and "Love Makes The World Go Round" made it as the album closers is beyond me.

PPS: I love the 3 main tracks from WTG. And even "Can't Stop" has grown on me in the last 10 years or so. Has anyone else heard the Shep Pettibone remixes of it? I'm not sure if they're official or real or what, and they don't add much to the song, but I suppose it means it was intended as a single at some point. shrug

my least favorite era probably

i love "live to tell"...but the rest has to go. "open your heart" video is classic...but I think it's her least attractive look, and the non singles are her WORST album tracks of all time. I hate the platinum blonde granny hair, I do NOT enjoy the footage of the tour...god awful...her "look" in the "papa dont preach" video is her least fuckable ever. yuck.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

oh come on, less fuckable than "Heidi with her tits out in leather bondage gear and gold tooth pushing a baby carriage on the runway"???? sad

I always thought dark eyebrows and platinum blonde hair to be a pretty daring fashion statement.

Besides maybe "Erotica", my favorite Madonna era. It was sort of innoccent but not really. And the songs were nearly all top notch (yet how did "Jimmy, Jimmy" and "Love Makes the World Go Round" make the cut on a great pop album like "True Blue").

And of course I love "Who's That Girl" as a track. Maybe my favorite Madonna song...at the very least my favorite of the eighties and during the eighties. "Causin' A Commution" is great and "The Look of Love" is sadly never given it's due (mostly by Madonna...why not put it on "Something To Remember"?).

"Erotica" always springs to mind as a Halloween song for me. Maybe it's because of the time of year it came out. But mostly because of the looming sense of dread and creeping paranoia in the music, vocals and lyrics. It's quite sinister, really. biggrin

Aaah, those were the days. Back when Madonna songs had tunes. "The Look Of Love" is probably the most underrated song of her career. "Who's That Girl" is a strong contender for best song of her career, period. Papa Don't Preach, La Isla Bonita, all great tunes. I never did like that haircut though. I remember standing outside Our Price when True Blue came out and staring at the poster, and saying that to my brother. She wasn't as fuckable as she'd been in the Virgin era, but it's a sign of how far on top she was, that it didn't affect her popularity at all.

Oh yes, the videos were great too. Back then you could still actually make out what was going on in music videos. Nowadays it's like being strapped into a chair and having someone flash strobe-lights at you. You can't make out anything clearly. The same goes for much concert footage nowadays too. It was in the late 80s that video editors started to think this was a good idea. Now their folly has infected TV and film as well. It's not even just the editing either. It's the type of film they shoot with too. Look at the Thriller videos or early Cyndi videos like "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". The first thing you notice is how bright the colours are. In the '90s that got lost as they started using duller film that got more detail, but had a flatter look. Off topic I know, but worth saying nonetheless.

It's funny,I wasn't really much of a Madonna fan during this era boxed It was the next album 'Like A Prayer' that turned me into a diehard fan."Live To Tell" caught my attention though.I thought it was very mature, emotional song....much more impressive than the bubblegum dance hits that she had done previously.

Look of Love and Live To Tel

I LOVE THOSE SONGS AND THE PERFORMANCES ON WHO'S THAT GIRL TOUR.

after that it's La Isla Bonita and Causing A Commotion

than and Open Your Heart

Live to Tell is supposdly about rape, specificlly one Madonna had in NY when she first moved there.

The song was going to be given to another singer, and the vocals on the track are the rough demo vocals and you can hear the pages from the song sheet turn if you listen carefully. Madonna and Pat heard the vocals and felt the song had to stay. Many people were blown away when the song came out because they were expecting LAV part 2 and her designer at the time Maripol was upset because her business went under when Madge switched looks. It was the first time Madonna had recreated her image.

I don't like the fact that a Prince site is slowing being spun into Madonna's lair of sexual pleasure. The Kabala is taking our minds. Could this be a plot?
