Without Madonna, what will become of Warner Bros. Records? It's not secret that she's their bread and butter. The only real star that's left on the label (hell, in the business?). Anyway, it seems weird that they'd let her go. On the other hand, I heard that the deal is pretty pricey (and over 10 years), and if so, they probably felt that money could be spent developing hot new acts instead of supporting the bloat of some dinosaur's career. As for Madonna herself, this is an incredible risk. If the deal is worth as much as I've heard, then I hope she worked something out with the new company that she doesn't have to pay back the advances. There's no way in hell any of her new records are going to make that kind of money. And it's also risky, because apparently this label is brand new and has absolutely no experience. But that could be a plus. A maverick spirit usually works better at shaking things up and doing new things than the ones that have been doing the tried and true for over a century. Still this makes me nervous. I hope the greatest hits package she still owns Warner Bros. ends up being a box set, with a whole disc of outtakes from over the years, instead of yet a nother slap-dash "effort" like the last one. Seems like the last chance we're ever going to get to hear any old outtakes, unless they work something out in the future. I'm sure WB. owns the rights to release them. She did say she and Warner were going to cooperate with the final album. I don't know about future ventures though (like the proposed box set). She owes them a compilation, just like Prince did when he left WB. I'm guessing it'll come out after the next album, after the R&RHOF. Hopefully it'll be a career-spanning, multi-disc retrospective with outtakes (rather than a single disc "here's some hits that weren't on the other collections" collection) because it's probably the last chance we'll get for that for many years, until they can negotiate a one-off 10 years from now, a la "Ultimate Prince" [Edited 10/19/07 16:31pm] "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

I'm guessing that she'll tour in 2008, after the album, but maybe not necessarily in support of it. (She owes the new company 4 tours, after all). Then again, if she makes it a greatest hits show, she still owes WB one of those, so we'll probably get whatever that ends up being by the end of 2008.
I'm pretty sure we'll have another new album by summer of 2009. The new company are going to want her to get cracking on that ASAP, considering she's still got about a year's worth of work from now left still tied to Warner Bros. projects. All said, it could be a pretty incredible 2 years. The last WB album in early 2008. The RRHOF. A tour. A box set or greatest hits. Then in 2009 a new album and tour again. The difference with Elton and Madonna is the fact that ELTON owns every single damn thing, he owns his entire catalog of music, madonna does not, Elton owns masters, publishing, tours, u name it and he owns it, he also donates almost all of it at this point to aids research because like he said, he doesnt really need anymore $$. Oh baloney. He goes bankrupt every 3 years because he spends so god damn much money on flowers alone. To me it sounds like they're only entitled to put together one more compilation, as per her current contract with them. It was the same with Prince. When he left, he gave them C&D, The Vault, and the rights to a single compilationm (The Very Best of Prince), which is why we haven't been deluged with Prince comps from Warner Bros. Ultimate Prince was worked out with Prince later, as a separate deal. I really don't think we're going to get a lot of stuff from Warner Bros. after it's all said and done. Which is why I hope the compilation she still owes them is a box set. Because it's going to be a long time before there's another opportunity, I'm afraid. Well they still got Whitney and if Madonna had went over there, Whitney would leave in a huff and Clive couldn't have that. Plus he's still looking after Ms. Alicia Keys so Madonna would've not been as heavily promoted. Live Nation willprobably allow her to get promoted for her shit. That's true,Arista has no shortage of divas I think Madonna likes the LiveNation deal because,at the moment, she is the only person signed to it,lol. She's gonna get their un-divided attention.

Sure,he owns his masters but he's not as smart as Madonna is,when it comes to handling his finances.
