Had no idea that was Bootsy on that track. No wonder it was one of my favorite jams. Very mellow, yet groovy at the same time.

Great song, I wish that clip of him performing it on Soul Train w/ Jody Watley dancing on stage to it was still on youtube.

Wowzerz! And even Telma Hopkins from Dawn (Dayum, that chick was on more than a few records... even "Shut'cho mouf!" Theme from Shaft by Isaac Hayes). Had no idea whatsoever! But again, no wonder "Disco Lady" was always one of my favs. And it was always because of the bassline and keys. GO BOOTSY! GO BERNIE!!! And Triple Dayum: With Glenn Goins soulful voice on backup (although he's listed as: Guitarist), that record HAD to be a hit! This is big news (for me). Thanks so much for sharing.

"Disco Lady" is a 1976 chart-topping single for Johnnie Taylor. It spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart (six weeks R&B) in the US, and went on to become his biggest hit. It was also the first single to be certified platinum by the RIAA. The single was Taylor's first for Columbia Records. Taylor signed with Columbia after his long-time label Stax went bankrupt. The song was produced by Taylor's longtime producer, Don Davis.

Among the guests on the song were three members of Parliament-Funkadelic: bassist Bootsy Collins, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and guitarist Glen Goins and Dawn's Telma Hopkins.

For a title like "Disco Lady", the song was actually a FUNK song. And yes Telma and Bootsy were on it. I felt a P-Funk vibe with that song. Brought Johnnie to the late-'70s for a good minute.
