Does REM have any really shallow hits collection

I mean something so grossly incomplete it only has like eleven big radio songs or something...

Like a 20th Century Masters or something?

I really only love 2 of their albums. boxed I want the hits!

Which two albums do you love? I don't know of a hits album, but can see why you'd want one. Their hit songs are amazing! I can see how some people say they're boring, but every time I hear one of their true classics, I'm swooning again. cloud9

I like Monster and New Adventures In Hi-Fi, and I know that's not really congruent with their other material that I want a fly-over hits review of.

Those all seem to cover certain eras though. When did they bounce from IRS Records?

this is the one you want, cee.

The IRS one, (with the masks on the cover) one is brilliant, but you won't know most of the songs as they're all pre- "Out of Time".

REM left IRS in the later 80's for WB and their first album there was "GREEN" which featured "Stand" and "Orange Crush" and "Pop Song". REM seems to be two different bands, mainly due to their longevity, similar to U2 and Inxs and Duran and others from that era. Their sound did change as 90's came in to a more "rock" sound with "Monster" and "HiFi". Its tough for me to compile something for REM because i tend to like the more obscure stuff, meaning not HITS, though they have great hits, i have tended to be more into their album cuts. To me their best albums would be "Murmur" and "Automatic for the People" if i had to pick 2, but i dont think i have ever not liked their albums, my least fave would be "UP", though it has one of their best songs "At my most Beautiful".

I have to admit it, they still don't seem complete without Bill Berry. it's been a decade and i'm still not used to it confused

There's also this oldie:

I much prefer The U.K.'s The Best Of for the IRS stuff though. I'm not interested in anything released after Green.

So I'm not gonna find "Radio Free Europe" alongside "Shiny Happy People" on a CD anywhere due to label licensing?

Doesn't Universal own everything now anyway?

I so agree with that...'Up' was not one of their best but out of it came that beautiful song. I love most of their albums from every era but 'Document' I think is my absolute favorite!

I do like a few of their IRS hits, and I wish they were packaged together but..

that does look like the closest one worth grabbing.

"Shiny Happy People" isn't even on that!

It ain't even like that's the #1 song I'm ridin' for but c'mon, that is a certifiable H-I-T and they can't even compile it.

Fuck it, I ain't buyin' none of these.

I thought I read somewhere that the band considers that song a low point in their career.
