Diana Ross 'The Boss' (her 1979 album) Went to the wrecka stow this weekend and this is one of the CDs I bought:
Produced by Ashford and Simpson and released in the summer of '79,this album features the hits "The Boss" and "It's My House".The opening track "No One Gets The Prize" was also very popular in the discos. Diana fans...what do you think of this album? I remember this being considered somewhat of a comeback for Diana, after a few unsuccessful albums.

Once in the Morning is my favorite thing about that album!

I have a CD that has both this and "diana" back to back. Both are awesome discs and easily preferable to anything I heard from her earlier, safer recordings (or later, misguided attempts to get back on the charts). A perfect mix of classy singing and a little bit of funk!

I learned from watching old skool performers (and older girlfriends who are singers) is that it's the point in a singer's set when she peels off clothing to reveal a lesser, albeit newer version of her stage outfit, and usually for dramatic effect. Unfortunately, these days the concept of costume reval has been reduced to jokes about Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction"with the ripped bra at the Superbowl, but it's not a new concept at all. Notice how Diana comes out in this video with layer upon layer of clothing, eventually stripped away to her halter jumpsuit (I LOVED how sparkly her stage costumes was when I was little!). Some other examples of singers who have perfected the wardrobe reveal---Patti Labelle, as she often enters her stage shows beginning with a glamourous overcoat or ball skirt, then removes it to reveal her slinky mini dresses underneath and great legs! Or even more modernly, Erykah Badu...her Mama's Gun tour was a straight-up tribute to the traditional costume reveal; she would come out in the most dramatic coats, hats, and head wraps and by the time you reached the end of the show she was stripped down barefoot to a simple modern dance studio style dress, barefoot, and bald head sans head covering, singing her heart out. Call me cheesy, but I love a good costume reveal in concerts because if done at the right moment they really enhance theatrical aspect of what you're seeing and feeling With this post I think I've just given away my true age

I know exactly what you mean, and you`re right about it... As i started to read your reply, i instantly thought of Cher Come to think of it, doesn`t Ross still do that? She always wears those crazy furs with a beautiful gown underneath...

I also have the "diana" remastered two disc set, so I noticed that after I bought this set. I got the CD so cheap, though. I'll check those cuts out.

I noticed that several of her classic CDs have been remastered, some even include bonus tracks.I saw the remaster of her 1973 album 'Last Time I Saw Him',a remaster of her duet album with Marvin Gaye, and a few others.
