But isn't that a song that you will have sweet dreams to or at least slow-dance to? It's a beautiful song. The problem is, I'll be having sweet dreams before the song is even over.

I think the thing with Smokey Robinson and Babyface is that they started out in groups and were also outside producers for other acts, so those various acts got their primary attention. As solo acts, they each had exceptional (but not what I would call hall of fame-worthy) careers. Hence, if you're making an anthology you have to make one of both their solo music and the hit songs of the acts they produced. Granted, it will be EXPANSIVE -- I made a six-disc discography of 'Face's music recently -- but I don't feel one of their solo works do them justice. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. But people do recognize their vocals though.

Yeah, but it's part of the package -- identifiable hitmakers on their own, writers and producers of volumes of memorable hit songs for others, suave leading men romantic vocalists. I always thought it was odd some people on this Web site constantly try to compare 'Face with Prince, when in reality 'Face was the Smokey Robinson of the late '80s and '90s. When you think of Smokey, you think of him as much as the writer of songs for The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Mary Wells as much as you think of his stuff with The Miracles and his solo stuff. Just when I hear 'Face's name, I equally think of the stuff he did with Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton and others as I do his solo stuff. Other standout songs Smokey Robinson made as a solo artist that wasn't named were "Let Me Be the Clock" and "I've Made Love to You a Thousand Times." I too want to show my appreciation to Smokey Robinson who is in my top 10 favourite artists list. I must admit I got into him and the Miracles via Michael Jackson / The Jackson 5 somehow who did some excellent covers.
Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 songs associations with Smokey - The Tracks of My Tears (Smokey Robinson) My Girl (Smokey Robinson; Ronald White) Who's Lovin' You (Smokey Robinson) The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage (Smokey Robinson; Marvin Tarplin) That's What Love Is Made Of (Smokey Robinson; Robert Rogers; Warren Moore) Happy (Smokey Robinson; Legrand) Ain't That Peculiar? (Smokey Robinson; Rogers; Moore) (Come Round Here) I'm the One You Need (B. Holland; E. Holland; Dozier)

I love Smoke, one of my favorite artist ever. He has a very great voice and is an underrated songwriter/producer. I remember the story he had about meeting Mr. Gordy for the first time.
He told him he had 100 songs in a notebook, I think Berry only liked one of the songs. He said at first Smokey didn't know how to write songs, as his ideas were everywhere. He told him how to write storys. PRINCE: Always and Forever

His post-Miracles output is too often overlooked. Despite that,he's one of the greatest singer/songwriters in the pop music history.
My favorite Smokey solo tracks: "The Nearness of You" "Being With You, "Close Encounters of The First Kind", "Wine, Women and Song" "Tell Me Tomorrow" "Cruisin'" "Let Me Be The Clock" "Daylight and Darkness" .
