J*Davey Appreciation Thread You don't know who they are? Well you should! J*Davey is one of the best things about music right now. They're music is a blend of modern R&B, electrofunk, jazz, and rock. If you love Prince circa 1982-1988, you'll love J*Davey! Here's an article about them in Amplified Online: ----- Born with music in their veins, both Jack Davey and Brook D'Leau were products of the growing music video age that finally allowed consumers to visualize what they were listening to. Jack was exposed to classic Jazz and hints of late-seventies Fusion, while Brook was surrounded by the New Wave and Pop-Rock sound by way of Prince, Talking Heads, and The Police. Through their youth it was evident that music would change their futures, and once introduced by a mutual friend in high school, the two musical masterminds decided to put plans for a musical partnership into motion. Combining hip-hop, soul, and new-wave, Jack and Brook came together in the studio like hand and glove. Jack started to incorporate soul singing into their hip-hop songs, and the duo took flight by further transforming themselves into electro-soul carriers of futuristic "funk-punk" sounds and abnormal song structures. Fast forward to the present, and the duo is being heralded as a cross between Erykah Badu, Prince, and Radiohead with traces of funk and some other future sound that has yet to be named. Place them in the same category as fellow melody makers (and former collaborators) Sa-Ra Creative Partners and Platinum Pied Pipers, but do not contain them to only that. Sit back and listen to such grooves as the Prince inspired "privateparts" and the non-traditional sequence of "Cowboys & Indians" and you'll be more than convinced that J*DaVeY is ready to take next level consumers light years ahead of where they expect to go.
