UPDATED:Janet: Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis not yet involved in new album

At a recent press conference to promote "Why Did I Get Married?," Janet confirmed that as of now Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are not involved in her upcoming album that she is currently recording:

Janet, are you finished with your next album? What direction are you taking?

Janet Jackson: "No, I'm working on it. It'll be out probably first quarter of next year. I'm doing something, still being who I am, I'll never shy from that. I'm working with a few people. I'm working with Ne-Yo, I'm working with Jermaine, working with Rodney Jenkins…"

(Tyler Perry points at himself and everyone laughs)

Lamman Rucker: "They'll be doing a duet together."

Janet Jackson: "This is something different for me because normally it's myself, Jimmy [Jam] and Terry [Lewis] and always writing music and myself writing the melodies. This is a bit of a departure from [that]."

So Jimmy and Terry are not involved?

Janet Jackson: "As of now, no."

Janet talks to AP about new movie, album, book, and marriage

The Associated Press has released the transcript of a short interview they did with Janet where she discussed the new movie, her upcoming book, her views on marriage, and her new album.

When discussing her new album, Janet said that there still may be a chance that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis could end up on it:

Q: What's your new album like?

Jackson: It's still me. I'm still doing myself, really. The reason why I'm saying this is because as of right now, I'm not working with (longtime collaborators) Jimmy (Jam) and Terry (Lewis). And if we're really going to work together on this album, I don't know. I'm not quite sure. ... Hopefully we can and we'll get together and be able to do at least a couple of things together.

NOOOOO!!!!!

Janet without Jam & Lewis is a recipe for disaster. She can keep Ne Yo on board as a writer, but kick Rodney Jerkins to the curb STAT. Jermaine - fine, keep him on, whatever, but she really needs J & L and also RENE back on board. Period.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I know some want J&L back and some think it's time for them to go. I'm on the fence altho I think some of her best music was with them. I'm not interested in the three producers she's mentioned so far.

as long as the album is solid, consistant, and has evolved lyrically from her recent projects then that works for me. though i do like "20 y.o." a lot better than "All For You" and "Damita Jo"

i think a duet with Britney would be in order. and i'm being serious biggrin

I Hope she picks some good songs.. Wish Steve Hodge( Flyte Tymes Old Engineer) was on Board to mix " her " vocals.. You really have to know what you're doing to catch her small vocals..

Frankly, the Janet/Jimmy/Terry thing is stale and has been for this entire decade.

But on the other hand.... Jermaine Dupri and Rodney Jerkins aren't exactly the hot/hip/revolutionary producers that are going to breathe fresh air into her work. They're going to breathe same tired, stale, stank breath into her music that they breathe into every other artist's music. Is it fucking 1998 or something?

I can't disagree with u, but Janet has about maxed out. I'd say Jimmy and Terry are her ONLY hope.

Somebody hip me - what have Jimmy & Terry done in the last, lets say 7 years that's been SO great that Janet NEEDS them @ this point in time? confused I'm not being an ass, I really haven't followed them since working w/ her.

I know they worked magic w/ her back in the day but everybody's gotta evolve & I wonder if they have shrug

For the record, I liked 20 Y.O., I have no clue why it didn't do better confuse

2 answer your question: not much. It just seems 2 me that Janet is very limited and those guys know how or knew how 2 maximize her minimal talent.

Just my 2 cent.

Well, considering her minimal to nonexistent musical talents, I think Janet Jackson has had an amazing run of fifteen years from 1986 to 2001. Most people are not that blessed.

We really don't know that. We've just become accustomed to them working on her material for the past twenty years. Folks are hesitant and afraid of change. Change doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. Didn't Prince change his sound, somewhat? Allot of folks can't relate to his new sound, and allot has stuck with him in spite of it. Why is change for Janet the exception?

Because she can. Because she wants to. Why does it seem as if she has to ask for permission to do what she think is best? None of us are in the studio with her. She only needs to be herself, if some can't get with that, oh well. Some don't have to. She must be doing something right. Even nonfans like the ones constantly insulting her are constantly responding to threads about her. Mmmm, I wonder why.... confused

We don't have to listen to it. No one tells Prince what to write about, sing, play etc. Why what's good for him can't be what's good for Janet?

I think that Janet should let Jimmy and Terry serve as exec. producers, but she should take a chance on other producers. She needs an music makeover. I dont want her going to the "in" producers like Timberland, Pharell, etc. I would like her to take a risk (which paid off for Madonna) with different , maybe European Producers who can make the most of her voice, and give her a dance sound that is hot without sounding like everything else on 106 and park. And no rappers (this includes her husband).
