True 80s Electro-funk! What's in YOUR top ten? I'm so tired of all of these 90s kids false-reppin' the 80s I don't know what to do. I read stuff online all of the time where people get the 80s and 70s mixed up, misrepresent the music that was popular and get the band/group names wrong because they downloaded some file from Kazaa or Limewire where someone guessed the name of an artist or song. I was there, damnit! Here's what was REALLY poppin' at the skating rink where everybody used to hang out. (In no particular order)
1. Soulsonic Force - Planet Rock (of course) 2. Planet Patrol - Play At Your Own Risk 3. Egyptian Lover - Egypt, Egypt 4. Pretty Tony - Fix It In The Mix 5. Cybotron - Clear 6. The P Crew - Nasty Rock 7. The Jonzun Crew - Pac Jam 8. Hashim Al-Naayfish (Its Time) - if you don't know this song, you weren't there or you were corny. 9. Twilight 22 - Electric Kingdom 10.Afrika Bambaataa - Looking For The Perfect Beat That's what time it really was. Any combination of these gems resulted in a good time. Anybody else that says different is a lyin' pack of now & laters! (I know there are more people than Vainandy and I that remember the REAL 80s!)

Jam On It - Newcleus 6. I'm Ready - Kano 7. Al Naafiysh - Hashim 8. Scorpio - GrandMaster Flash 9. Numbers - Kraftwerk 10. Pack Jam - Jonzun Crew

I still have some of those records you mentioned above...some were stolen by burglars in 2003 but I still have the most essential ones.
You forgot The Jonzun Crew and Newcleus on that list. Paul Hardcastle also did a couple of tracks in that vein..sure, some of his pop oriented stuff was a bit corny but I liked that Zero One album he did. I still listen to Looking for the Perfect Beat on a regular basis. By the way, there´s this Dutch orger called 100MPH who once traveled all the way to LA and met Egyptian Lover in his studio and received some rare 12" vinyl from him. Ahhhhh....the 80s and Electro....those were the good old days. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Is 'Let The Music Play' (1983) by Shannon considered electro-funk? What about 'Got To Have Your Love' (1989) by Mantronix?
Is 'Roller Skate' by Vaughan Mason electro-funk or just disco? I get confused.

Here are two jams that I guess would be considered eletro-funk that aren't as fast as the typical "Planet Rock" tempo type jams.....
Ray-Gun-Omics - Project Future Nunk (New Wave Funk) - Warp 9 They are probably around the tempo of "Pack Jam" by The Jonzun Crew. . . [Edited 10/9/07 13:15pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I don't remember "Nunk". Good ones, V. Some of those that people listed are NOT electro-funk. There was a big difference between electro-funk and electro pop.

No, I can't say I am familiar with the name James "The Mighty Chopper" Hamilton. On another note, I would like to give a shout-out to Kraftwerk's "Tour de France," The Invisibles' "Donkey Kong" and The Egyptian Lover's "You're So Fine." There were songs that were influenced heavily by electro-funk. Arguably the three biggest examples are Herbie Hancock's "Rockit," Chaka Khan's "I Feel for You" and Shannon's "Let the Music Play." I guess some of y'all missed the "TRUE" part. I'm talking Man Parrish - Boogie Down Bronx; I'm talking Tour de France - BOTH versions; Kraftwerk AND 10 Speed.
Oh, and Madonna NEVER did an electro-FUNK song.

I was pretty young, but kinda remember loving Freakazoid & Space Cowboy, in fact the whole Jonzun Crew Lost in Space album.
But back then I thought anything with that voice (including Styx Mr. Roboto) was cool My Legacy
