Your pics for top 80's R&B What songs would you choose as the top examples of classic 80's R&B?
I would choose something by GUY (Groove Me? I Like? Teddy's Jam?), something by Al B Sure (Off On Your Own?), something by Cameo (Candy?), maybe some Keith Sweat (I Want Her), and throw in Cherelle/Alexander O'Neal (Saturday Love)... ...what would you add??? Just wanted to get a feel of what other people's favorites were. Don't want a concise list, just a few top picks. Maybe we can think of songs that we had forgotten (like "I'll Be Good" from Rene & Angela that up until today I had completely forgotten but was one of my favs). I think we're talking true r&b...not fly-by-night hits. :-p I would also throw in Babyface's "Tender Lover" cd, Alexander O'neal's "Hearsay" cd, and Quincy Jones' "The Dude" to name a few. What's up with all the late 80s songs being listed? Everything listed are excellent examples of late 80s R&B but the early 80s were entirely different. The music was much harder and most of it didn't crossover to pop. 1980-1984 was a completely different world away from 1985-1989. Examples of early 80s R&B would be:
