I think LA wants Janet to achieve the type of success Mariah did with Mimi. He will have the best a&r, promotions, marketing and anything else in the business to promote this project. He will probably oversee each track (with janet) to make sure it is current and hip (yet maintaining the classic Janet feel). Now, I wouldn't b surprised if Jam and Lewis contributed a ballad or slow grind song with Janet, but that would be it. good point.

LA's involvement was signalled by his escorting of Janet to the LA premiere of Why Did I Get Married, unofficially kicking off IDJ promotional efforts for the new album and signifying that JD will be relegated to the background.

Jackson: It's still me. I'm still doing myself, really. The reason why I'm saying this is because as of right now, I'm not working with (longtime collaborators) Jimmy (Jam) and Terry (Lewis). And if we're really going to work together on this album, I don't know. I'm not quite sure. ... Hopefully we can and we'll get together and be able to do at least a couple of things together.

An R&B album without Jimmy and Terry....Ouch! She did say as of yet. They could swoop in and do at least a few tracks. It doesn't sound finished. I'll be very dissapointed if she is not working with Jimmy and Terry and not going to try do some dance pop like she did on DJ.
Working with Jermaine, Ne-Yo and Rodney Jerkins. Sounds like the seventh circle of hell of most Janet fans! [Edited 10/11/07 14:53pm]

Janet, are you finished with your next album? What direction are you taking? Janet Jackson: "No, I'm working on it. It'll be out probably first quarter of next year. I'm doing something, still being who I am, I'll never shy from that. I'm working with a few people. I'm working with Ne-Yo, I'm working with Jermaine, working with Rodney Jenkins…" (Tyler Perry points at himself and everyone laughs) Lamman Rucker: "They'll be doing a duet together." Janet Jackson: "This is something different for me because normally it's myself, Jimmy [Jam] and Terry [Lewis] and always writing music and myself writing the melodies. This is a bit of a departure from [that]." So Jimmy and Terry are not involved? Janet Jackson: "As of now, no." is JANET STUPID ????!!!!! she must be... because why not work with Jimmy.... come on... just leave friends behind... if janet does a hip-hop album... im so serious... if she has more then one rapper on her album... Maybe two... then Im not buying this album... Im seriously disappointed and haven't heard any of her music.... even if she let Jimmy and Terry produce a few songs or direct the album.. then that would be okay with me... but she just abandoned them.. and its so not cool

You don't have to keep up this steady stream of rebuttal every time someone mentions anything critical of Janet. Yes, we know we don't have to buy it. He and Janet probably have a vision of what they want the project to be and I am very optomistic about this project. If he can turn Mariah's music career around after the "Glitter" fiasco, he can (hopefully) do the same with Janet. Let's face it, her career hasn't been on track since before Superbowl. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Reid is even worse. He's gonna have Janet sounding like every other female R&B artist on his label, working with same tired producers.

lol shes stuck! she needs to find some other circle of producers to work with. Yeah, she's stuck in an R&B trap. It's a shame that many artists aren't willing to take risks and work with other producers who may not be as popular, but are more creative and edgy. Ne-Yo?

I don't feel Janet Jackson's age is the issue, but the fact that she wants to compete in an age-specific demographic. She's trying to gain an audience with people who not only are young enough to be her children, but likely those children's parents were fans of hers 20 years ago. I think JD can be a good producer but his CURRENT SOUND is wayyy too sparse to support Janet's voice. e.g. "With U" was nice once the strings were in the mix (thank you Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis), but the track during the verses was barely present.
