Honestly, I still have a lot of his music to explore.

I don't think I could name his LPs in order of release.

Rick always got my attention no matter what he did. Actually my mom was into his music more and played his joints all the time.

I've been listening to his stuff a lot since I've read his book. Did anyone else like "Urban Rhapsody"? Except for 2 ballads it's not bad.

I'm with u on the same page Cinnie,,,huge fan though, but I still got alot to learn from this brotha.

The only thing I have from him is his Anthology and his book which created a newfound thurst for his music.

I like:

Good Ole Days
Player's Way
Never Say You Love Me Again
Mama's Eyes

He needed his ass beat for not putting no funk on the album though. lol

Excellent list Abdul. The ones you missed were:

"Slow Dancin", a duet with Chaka Khan on her 1983 album

"She Said She Loves Me", a track he produced for Kleeer on their album from either 1982 or 1983

"This Magic Moment", a song that was on the album "Rock, Rhythm, and Blues" which was a various artists album in 1989.

"Divine Love (So Fine)", "Serious Love (Spend The Night)", "Starship", and "Down By Law", these were new tracks that were included on a 2 CD greatest hits collection called "Bustin' Out" that was released in the 1990s.

"Table Dance", a song that was on the United We Funk album in 1989 which featured new songs from old school funk artists.

I've never heard of the "Get Up And Dance" 12 Inch from 1976. Was that one released under Rick's name?

The entire album is like that. You could take any song from that album, play it on today's radio, and it would fit in perfectly with everything else on the radio today.

The new tracks on the "Bustin' Out" greatest hits collection and the United We Funk album were sellout songs also but I thought Rick had gotten past that since he gave Prince a compliment back in 2004 for continuing to make funk when no one else was. I guess he must have been desperate for money when he made "Deeper Still" since he had smoked a lot of his money up, was auctioning off his old clothes, and was living in an average apartment at the time of his death.

I've been a fan since his debut single "You And I" came out in 1978.I rushed to the record store and bought the 45.The song on the B-side was "Hollywood" which I also liked.

I have all his albums,my favorites are 'Bustin Out Of L7' (1979) and 'Street Songs' (1981).

In the past couple of years he's definitely been a favorite of mine. I think now I've grownto appreciate him as a true Soul artist and not some punchline. Believe me, there's still a lot of folks who look back at Rick as this guy who lived a reckless life and not see him as a great musician. And that's pretty sad, frankly.

I just got the deluxe edition of "Street Songs" last month. It has an extra disc of a live concert Rick and his Stone City band played in the summmer of 81. It also features Teena Marie doing "Square Biz" and "I'm a Sucker For Love". That is a MUST-HAVE for all Rick fans! cool

Oh yeah, I heard "Garden of Love" for the first time on wax yesterday and that's not a bad album either. smile

That's a really rare album. I got a dj promo copy with a pretty plain white cover. I would sooo love to get a copy of the album with the original album artwork.

The live CD is great from start to finish and Teena Marie sang just as well live on her two songs as she did in the studio.

When I first bought the album, the only song I liked was "Big Time". However, over the years, I've grown to like "Mary Go Round" and "Don't Give Up On Love". There are too many slow songs on that album but I still like it better than any of Rick's late 80s albums because it still had the Stone City Band sound.
