Top Video Of All Time

Queen's video for Bohemian Rhapsody has been voted the best video of all time in a survey of UK music fans.

The six-minute promo was named the greatest ever by nearly a third of respondents to a poll carried out by mobile phone provider O2.

Despite taking just three hours to shoot and costing only £3,500 to make, the groundbreaking video finished top ahead of Michael Jackson's cinematic Thriller promo and Justin Timberlake's Cry Me A River, which garnered publicity by using a Britney Spears lookalike shortly after the two singers' relationship had ended.

Though it made her name, Britney's Baby One More Time video finished in a lowly 15th place.

Bohemian Rhapsody topped the UK charts for nine weeks when released in 1975 and hit the number one spot again in 1991, after the death of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury.

O2 commissioned the survey of 1,051 adults to coincide with their sponsorship of the best video category at today's Q Music Awards.

Over half (56 per cent) of those surveyed said the "video relating to the song" was the most important factor for a good video, while 32 per cent thought "good choreography" was essential.

The UK's top 15 best music videos of all time are as follows:

1. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (30 per cent)
2. Michael Jackson - Thriller (13 per cent)
3. Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River (12 per cent)
4. OK Go - A Million Ways (9 per cent)
5. A-Ha - Take On Me (7 per cent)
6. Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love (4 per cent)
7. Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U (4 per cent)
8. REM - Losing My Religion (4 per cent)
9. Christina Aguilera - Dirrty (4 per cent)
10. Madonna - Like A Prayer (3 per cent)
11. Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity (3 per cent)
12. Lionel Ritchie - Hello (3 per cent)
13. Duran Duran - Rio (2 per cent)
14. Oasis - Wonderwall (2 per cent)
15. Britney Spears - ... Baby One More Time (2 per cent)

There is no such thing, IMHO. Videos are someone else's interpretation of the music. One should have their own interpretation, or at least their own memories.

For instance, there are millions of people that will always think of Run DMC when they hear Aeorsmith's "Walk this Way", because the first time they heard that song was when they saw that video.

But I will always think of smooching with that cheerleader at the beach while "Walk this Way" played on the radio.

Lmao@Justin, Britney and Christina being on the list, but Janet not being on there. Who the hell did they survey? This list is trash (except for MJ being on it of course 'cause he deserves to be there biggrin).

I'm sorry, but if it wasn't for Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," the video age likely would not exist as we know it.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I have to disagree. If it wasn't for Uk artists and shows like Top of the Pop, videos would have not started.

I think MJ was the one that start the modern video age.

nod I agree. I think the story behind its airing -- the head of CBS threatening the racist people at MTV -- is cool as well.

I think that Donna Summer's "She works hard for the money" should have been in the list. Hasn't it the first video from a black woman to be in heavy rotation on MTV?

I was talking about the modern video age. Before "Billie Jean," music videos were not taken as a serious medium to promote songs. Your typical music video had low budget production with most acts doing little more than "performing" in a room like the act was in a performance setting.

"Billie Jean" also was the song and video that set off Michael Jackson's incredible run on "Thriller" and also set into motion other significant aspects (expanding MTV's market base, giving the slumping music industry a much-needed boost).

Nothing personal, but you were being a little anal with your "technical" explanation of the video age.

i never understood the ending....there is a big ring of fire in the sky, and everyone seems to be scared of it at th end. Wasnt the message peace? Was there supposed to be a continuation?

I wouldve added NIN - Closer to the collection....that is one of my all time favorite videos. Even Tamia had to re-create that one for herself with "Imagination"

The Beatles? Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields? These werent exactly mini movies. They had created tracks within the movies they were in, but that is not exactly a short film for ONE song.
