New Janet album top of 08 Entertainment Tonight has a short interview with Janet from the red carpet of last night's Los Angeles premiere of "Why Did I Get Married?" available to stream on their website.
In the clip, Janet and L.A. Reid, who came with Janet as her date for the evening, confirm that her new album will be released "at the top of the year." This was Janet's first public appearance with Reid, whose Island Def Jam record label she signed with earlier this summer. http://www.etonline.com/n...index.html [Edited 10/5/07 5:57am]

A possible winter release? I always think of Janet in the spring and fall. Well,
here’s hoping that Reid really is holding the reins of this new project. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Actually, I was surprised when I read about her with Def Jam but figured I was out of the loop since I’ve been so busy but I guess it was, as you mentioned, not headline worthy. How could I have missed that? I know there was a lot of speculation. Who is MJB with? She got Janet’s first single. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Like who? One of YOUR favorites? Singers should retire whenever THEY feel the need to and not when others who do not happen to be into them think that they should. Would any of us want anyone to tell us to retire from doing something that we truly love?

Does a real musician ever retire? A pop diva/artist certainly does, doesnt mean they wont continue to make music.

Janet's career didn't fall off until after Superbowl. That's when people tuned on her (media and fans). That was only in 04. Prior to 04, she was still one of the biggest players in the game. I think if janet is going to ever retire she needs to leave with a blockbuster album... and then leave out... then have some babies

I don't know.... but some of janet's best work came from the 90's... and she definitly stood out as a true artist in the 90's... unfortunately janet only created two albums between 1990 and 1997... if you just watch her videos: IF, THATS THE WAY LOVE GOES, YOU WANT THIS, AGAIN.. those are great videos and amazing songs... it sound better then most of the songs at that time during the 90's.. How many artist during the early 90's were able to produce a dance video like "IF"...

Considering that her albums have been coming closer and closer together, and the is decreasing exponentially with each release, perhaps rushing another album out there so soon is NOT the way to go.
She just needs to go away. Regroup. Live life a little. Experience something (other than an orgasm) to write a song about. Instead of getting out there after 3 years, then 2 years, then a year and a half, she needs to go back to 4 yeras. Or maybe even wait 5 years this time. Clearly 1.5, 2, or 3 years is not long enough for her to get the inspiration and talent together to do an album. I hope I'm wrong, and that her next album is a kick-ass return to form. But I'm not holding my breath. Of all my past favorite artists, she's the one that's fallen the farthest for me. It's almost to the point where I don't even care anymore. It's near the point where I almost don't even consider myself a fan anymore. She was top 4 or 5 artists for me at one point. Now, she's almost an afterthought, when I'm trying to figure out who my favorites are. "Oh yeah, and Janet Jackson too, I guess." ... and that's usually after I've rattled off about 20 that spring more immediately to mind. I think we just want Janet to makes us think again (Rhythm Nation and Velvet Rope). Her main group of fans are here in our mid 20's - 30's. We are growing and are getting a little bit wary of teen music today. We had that already with janet., Damita Jo, All 4 U, and 20 YO, Im ready for change. But then again, that shows that she's still anxious and desperate to get to the top of the game again! She can't wait to do it better and come back with new material! She's still hungry! And she doesn't give up! So one has to honour that!
