For sure, however, she has sung some of the most memorable dance tracks of the last twenty-five years. I like how the article evaluates her career.
I am glad to see David Bowie and Michael Jackson on that list, and their respective albums. But keep in mind, I believe this magazine once crowned Oasis as the greatest band of all time. Yeah, I was thinking the same. I love Madonna. And I think she's done a lot to revolutionize popular music (the music itself, but also the promotion and business of it, good or bad), and may have done the most, overall, to create a sort of paradigm shift, but she's hardly the only woman that belongs on that list. Def wouldnt have been no Britney without Madonna (like that is a big statement but hell I said it..), and Rhianna talkin bout takin her crown Music what has she changed? ..... I dont know. Ray of Light opened up a more spiritual side of music, but nobody ever bite off that sound. Is there really any female artist that changed music? Maybe style and the female ARTIST..but not the music itself..she didnt create anything really new that no one else havent done already. Prince aint even in that list...there would be no Pharrell, Timbaland, countelss other producers without the Mpls sound. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

As long as he keeps trying to convince the org that we should all give Justin Timberlake "credit" his irrational hatred of Madonna holds no sway. Lists, lists, lists. Its a pre-occupation of straight white male music journalists to want to list everything. Trying to put some order or heirachy to something that should never have order or heirachy applied to it just feels wrong to me.
I stopped reading Q many years ago because every month they had a different list or poll about something - and it inevitably just pandered to what was hot currently, and the predictable historic greats. Its an excuse for them to stop being proper journalists, and churn out page filling articles of no substance. The fact that a magazine that has championed Prince (above MJ) for the last 20 years doesnt have the consideration to include him in this list, but will include some fucking pretentious no-mark cockney twat like Damon Albarn speaks volumes about this list. Utter garbage. That said, nice article about Madonna, and sums her up quite well i feel. And yes I would say of the last 25 years she has changed music more than any other female. Women came before her, Aretha, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Tina Turner, but its arguable whether they changed the face of music as much as she. This isnt a list on talent or singing ability - its about impact, and you couldnt really ahve had a bigger impact than she. | |
