SUPER TUESDAY! I picked up four new releases today. I don't recall that ever happening before.
Felix da Housecat - Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco PJ Harvey - White Chalk The Pipettes - We Are The Pipettes Siouxsie - Mantaray Okay, so the last two I've heard already, but I have to help support their U.S. sales. Anyone else getting any new releases this week?

Anyone else getting any new releases this week? Oh yeah, Bruce Springsteen and Annie Lennox are bought, Bruce right now is coming close to being my top cd of the year, though its close. As soon as i come down of the Bruce High, i'll give Annie a solid listen. Where are your reviews??? Yeah, the Pipettes CD was my #5 album of 2006. But the U.S. edition has new tracks and new album art so I had to get it. I'm crazy like that. Quickly: We Are The Pipettes (out of five) - This is a very fun album. I love the blend of 60s girl-group sounds with modern lyrics. Mantaray - I was a little disappointed in this one. Many of the songs are generic techno-rock. Maybe it will grow on me. White Chalk - I've only listened to this once, but my first impression is that it's amazing. It's quiet, sparse and eerie--like a soundtrack to the ghost film The Others. I have not listened to the Felix album yet.

Tuesday, tuesday, tuesday!
I'm going to buy Dylan's new box set. Looks pretty comprehensive and I have nothing by Dylan, and yet I plan to see him in concert (well, I'm more psyched about Elvis Costello). I'll wait on Annie's.

I have been really anticipating this album and Into A Swan is her best in a long time. I did catch snippets of it recently, and I have to say that the tracks I heard were almost as you say. Nothing stuck out like the Single, though I was hoping that due to the 30 sec samples, that the songs would be better. I have not heard of We are the Pipettes. Looks interesting. Hows the music? Listen for yourself: http://www.myspace.com/thepipettes I really like four songs on the Mantaray album including "Into A Swan". The rest I think is very mediocre.

Someone mentioned that the songs sound quite different between the US and UK version. I have no reference point. Is one better than the other. Though I think I am getting this regardless. Lemme give the new U.S. CD a spin... (a few quick samples later) ...OMG, you're right. The U.S. CD is mixed very differently from the U.K. one. I don't know if that's good or bad. I mean, I'm SO familiar with how the songs sound on the U.K. album so this will take some getting used to. On the other hand, it's like I bought an entirely new album with this U.S. edition as opposed to just getting it for the two extra tracks which means more value for my money. I'll have to keep them both now. As for which one to get, I guess get the U.S. one which has more songs. The mixes are different yes, but the songs are still pretty much the same. If you are hearing them for the first time, the differences probably won't matter to you.

The new Iron and Wine came out this week I believe, and I'll definitely be picking that up at some point.
There are a few other new-ish releases from the past month or so that I’ll be picking up shortly: The Mekons Robert Wyatt’s new record – I’ve cheated on that one, and my initial impression is that it’s likely my album of the year. The Raveonettes (probably) And I definitely want to get Emma (of the terribly undervalued and sadly defunct Delgados) Pollock’s debut solo record. [Edited 10/2/07 18:36pm]

This has been one of the BEST listening weeks for me ~ on tA's recommendation, bought Herbie Hancock's new Joni tribute and I absolutely love it. I got MeShell's new release along with Grace Jones Compass Pointe Saturday. I'm insane about the Grace Jones ~ thanks to a prelude by Gangsta on August 8th. MeShell ~ this cd is amazing ~ all over the place but I'm totally hooked. It will take a lot of unraveling but what a great ride! PJ, Joni and Annie next. What a year for the women!!!!! Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

Let's share I listened to Joni last night and it's spectacular. You'll love. They had it streaming off of CNET last week. I was pretty impressed. Then again, I am not familiar with her later works, so it sounded fresh to me and a big hark back to her jazzier days. Christian Zombie Vampires

First of all it's SIOUXSIE. I hate when her name gets misspelled. Secondly, I had mp3s of her album not the actual CD. (Please disregard my cheater comment on the PJ thread. ) I do have two copies of the Pipettes, but the songs on the U.S. edition are remixed so it's like having two different albums.

Team - Proof Of Youth (out of five) - I like this album more than their debut even though many say it's basically a copy. That's somewhat true in that I think only the good tracks from Thunder Lightning Strike were copied, not the ones I thought were average. The Donnas - Bitchin' 1/2 - This album is fun also. I don't think all the bad reviews are deserved. Maybe those critics are having flashbacks of getting beaten up in high school or something. I love the retro-metal riffs and harmonies.
