I'll defintely take CP over most of what's been listed. http://prince.org/msg/8/247867 [Edited 10/5/07 16:21pm] no need to get hostiile kitten, would you call stevie mainstream... Alot of his songs were never really radio hits... i mean his singles were never the best of his musical acomplishments I mean this is the mainstream public While Ribbon In The Sky, only goes up to 54 on the pop chats a trite song like I Just called to say i love you reaaches # 1 ... i mean c'mon! Yeah that really is sickening. A beautiful song like "Ribbon in the Sky" doesn't get much attention yet that latter bullshit "I just call to say I love you 157 times" go to #1 (and win a damn Oscar over Prince?) is just absurd. But so is life. Anyway, that proves to you charts don't mean SHIT!

To live a day without hearing at least one Stevie Wonder track is a day not worth living.
I'm rocking to "front line" at the moment.

I don't begrudge Stevie for being a pop mainstream artist. He has a built-in fanbase, so it doesn't matter if he doesn't get a major hit every time out. It's amazing in that he will sneak in some sort of accolade without his typical chart-topping sales. The problem is he's falling into the slips that MJ is doing Overediting yourself, so you can gun for that hit... Thats a burnout... Cause i can't even categorically call prince a burnout, cause the dude doesn't ever run out of material... be it bad or good... Within alot of P's B.S. releases you'll manage to find a nugget of gold... Cause he really doesn't care about having a hit... Whereas Stevie, Over edits his albums, adding guess musicians and singers... etc to gain some type of appeal... Thats a burnout... Steve needs to forget about satisfying the mainstream and just release stuff... like he use too.. back in the 60's and 70's Masterpeices are never made, thay just happen... Stevie's music is from above. If you don't get it, it's probably because you are too low to reach it.
