I think songs like "Give Into Me" and "Who Is It" are excellent! yeah, u cant win with some people, if MJ stuck to one style you get people saying he's not innovative enough. He has to change and he's done a good job of it compared to many motown artists. Just wait. There will be people writing that his sole intent in writing rock songs was to appeal to a bigger audience. I agree with this assessment to a certain extent. But I also wonder if it has ever occurred to these people that along with this intention, Michael Jackson GENUINELY likes rock music. The fact that one of his most personal songs "Morphine" is a rock song demonstrates that he likes and is comfortable with rock music as well as disco, dance, funk, and soul. [Edited 10/4/07 17:03pm] his range is impressive and he can pull it off. i appreciate his smooth soulful voice but alot of people like myself love the aggresive grunts and hard beats in songs like smooth criminal, blood on the dancefloor, in the closet, dirty diana, who is it, dangerous, get it, cheater etc. His later snappy dancing style compliments the feeling spot on.

I agree! I love his voice on Off The Wall and Thriller, and on his Motown albums. And I also love it on Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory.

I like his rock songs, it's just the "save all humanity" songs that I have a strong dislike towards.

Here's the story of how the album came to be:
I know this isn't really related to Michael's music. But I found an article in talking about how the Off the Wall cover was shot and I thought it was interesting. It's roughly translated from Spanish. What did you think of Michael? I was impressed with Michael’s work in “The Wiz”. My instinct told me the kid would be big. His manager at the time had worked with me at UA Records. One day he called me and told me Michael would be going solo and needed help. Imagine this… for the first album “Off the Wall” they had him seated in a bullet of straw, wearing cowboy clothes. The “concept” for the first album was so little convincing as a cowboy. Why were you there? I was there to do something for the first time in the music industry. I designed a person and created an identity for him. It was not just the cover? No Then? An entire look was created that presented him as a star. It was done in a visual metaphor of success. An icon. If. Michael Jackson was amoung the shadows in the room when I presented the design I had for him. Did he say anything about it? Only when I finished my presentation, he simply said smoothly “Thanks a lot.” That’s it. End of the history? Weeks later, he called me again to the office. Did not smile. Michael was there but not amoung the shadows this time… and seemed very sign. Nobody spoke. They didn’t even offer me coffee. There was a long and embarrassing pause… “He likes the idea” murmured the agent. “Only I want to be wearing white socks” said Michael. What happens with the glove? They had brought me the concept. A slightly timid boy should be wrapped for his debut alone- with a tuxedo- combining two symbols to create a visual metaphor of a very large talent with brilliant socks and a white glove. End of the history? That was the easy part. Obtaining the tuxedo was more difficult. Finally we found it in the female tuxedo section of Yves St. Laurent. A female tuxedo? We are not talking about Arnold (Scharwzenegger) exactly. And the glove? Bob Mackey. He did the socks and the glove with many sparkles and shines. Yves and Mackey. What happened later? We took the pictures for ever Los Angeles, Michael even had to change in the women’s changing room of Planeterium. But nothing happened. There was no magic. Only a small man in a tuxedo? A tuxedo and a glove and white socks… but the socks did not work. How did you fix that? I remembed Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and Cary Grant. They did history of the fashion with white socks. They put their hands in the pockets to raise the pants so you could see the socks. “Michael! Put your hands in the pockets. Raise your thumbs and raise the pants” Flash! Flash! Flash! Flash! And the rest is pop music history ----- "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

You know it's the same with me but it just happens that some of his best music is about social conciousness AS WELL AS some of his worst. Man In The Mirror Black Or White They Don't Care About Us Earth Song Little Susie IMHO save all humanity thing was just fine until I heard Cry and Lost Children. Then again I like to act like he never released Invincible Looks like i DID manage to ruin everyone's Off The Wall party

Every song on the album is top-notch It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.
