It would be nice if Prince supported this....

The stories on Sam Moore and Buddy Harmon are heartbreaking.

Sam doesn't get paid for his work on "Soul Man".

Now granted, the songwriters and publishers are always paid but the Artist (If he isn't one of the songwriters.) doesn't get paid for their perfomance on the record.

I used to wonder why I would see some Artists still playing live in less than stellar settings year after year.

Sam Moore doesn't get paid for his performance on "Soul Man" on the radio each time the song is played.

And with Satellite Radio expanding advertisers are paying huge sums of money and the music draws listeners and ratings which is big business. (Which is probably the reasoning behind Prince's suit with You Tube.)

Every day on the Corporate/Wedding/Casino circuit no matter what band it is "Soul Man" that usually opens the show so that is a lot of revenue. (Isaac Hayes doesn't get publishing income from "Soul Man" either.)

Buddy Harmon played on almost every hit out of Nashville during the golden era including "Crazy" by Patsy Cline which was voted "Number One Juxebox Hit of all time." and he doesn't receive anything from it unless it is used in a commercial or a film.

Even though Prince's battle is more personal it would be nice to see him testify before Congress.

There was a law voted on from all of the Nations in the 40's that said Artists should be paid for their performances on records.

Five nations voted against it. The US was one of the five.

In Europe Artists get a very nice check each year for their work.

Harold Bradley has some good insights on the podcast as well.
