ya know, he raises some valid points but loses my sympathy with his condescending attitude towards this years nominees.

this person does raise some valid points... the fact that Tina Turner has not been inducted is a travesty sad

I don't necessarily agree here!!!!! You can't induct "Anna Mae" without IKE!!!! We may not agree w/ the physical abuse & so on, but IKe is a KEY FIGURE in R&B/Blues/Rock!!!!! Anna Mae didn't do ALL that by herself!!!!! U're not gonna get one without the other!!!!!

woot! Apparently the guy has totally missed the concept. If dance music ain't part of the rock & roll lexicon, then what about Motown, what about soul, what about blues? This guy ain't making complete sense either in spite of what he feels should be inducted.

Exactly. There's no escaping the importance of dance music in rock n roll history.Hell, disco practically dominated the late 70s.The 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack sold 22 million copies. The guy who wrote this article is trying to downplay it's impact.

Considering the entire point of rock & roll was to dance to it, yes, there's no escaping the importance of the dance aspect of the genre. I think too many people forget that the point of all popular music, until it gets it's head stuck so far up it's own ass of self-importance, is to create something hip, hot, current, and usually something you can shake your ass too and have a good time with. When it starts taking itself too seriously, and is conceived with the intention of being "important" is usually when it falls flat on its face.

Exactly. Also you can still hear classic dance music of the '70s to this day. None of the songs are cheesy. I just think artists like Donna Summer and Chic have been maligned for so long that sometimes it's easy to pigeonhole the both of them but these acts were important to the development of rock & roll as a genre. Anyone who thinks rock & roll is just basically a guitar-driven genre has totally lost the ultimate concept of what rock & roll really is.
