For The Longest Time - Billy Joel Do any1 else love this song? It was featured in a couple movies I think..and it's such a memorable cut. Soulful and with plenty of harmony.
Billy Joel scored one of pop's rare all-vocal hits with "The Longest Time." The singer/songwriter wanted his album An Innocent Man to be filled with the reminiscences of both the music he grew up on as well as his own remembrances of his teenaged romances. "The Longest Time" sounded like the doo wop tunes of the '50s and '60s with Joel performing both the lead and background vocals. Produced by Phil Ramone, the single went to number 14 pop and number one adult contemporary for two weeks in the spring of 1984. The multi-platinum An Innocent Man went to number four pop and listed the gold single "Uptown Girl," the Top Ten pop title track, and the number one pop single "Tell Her About It." Billy was able to capture a time period with this album, it was huge for him, but i think people forget that it was him doing his "homage" to the blues groups of the day when he grew up. Seriously i dont think any other artist was able to nail a time period WITH ORIGINAL music like this album did. I was on Limewire lookin for another artist...I was like...Theres no way that was made in the 80's..... And i searched for about 10 minutes for the original creator..and it kept coming back...i said...this man made a good damn song for that time period! Sounds straight from the summer of 57 or something Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I think that's one if his biggest strengths. He's not a great innovator, but he knows certain types of music and is a great craftsman. My Legacy
