I remember hearing Marilyn Manson's first record and thinking how amazing it was. Months later, "Sweet Dreams" hit the radio and a band I never figured would blow up, did.
My aunt & uncle had a fun story. They happened to be on their second date in Buffalo NY at a bar where a little known band called The Police were starting their first American tour! If only I coulda been there!

I remember it like it was yesterday: My lil play-bro played "Potholes" for me in my ride while we were ditching high school, and he was like "Watch, you gon' like this shit!" and I was like "Damn! These nukkas are dope!" As for Maxy, you damn good then, because "Cops" failed pretty bad on the radio. Even I was like "Who's the fool and what's he talkin' bout cops and shit?" - And then he dropped "Ascension" and blew the fuck up off that! Then I went back and listened to "Cops" and realized how dope that shit was! nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

When I first saw the "I Can't Stand the Rain" video, I thought Missy was headed for big things. I liked her because she was always so original.
Other Shockers: Usher (or Usher Raymond on his first single) and Sean "I ruined rap/hip-hop" Combs. I didn't see him having any special talent. I thought he would always be limited to cameos in videos. He hasn't done anything good since he said "uh-huh, yeah" in the Big Poppa video when he was in the hot tub.

Here's one that comes to mind: REM - "Radio Free Europe." Yes, believe it or not, I remember the first time I heard that. I guess it's no surprise I went on to be a pretty big fan of them. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

I think it's been well established that I am probably the oldest orger here ~ but you wouldn't have known it at the Bjork concert in Detroit a couple weeks ago!!!! I refuse to grow up!
