all i can say is that they got two or three trax on the new cd that are way funkier than the dude whose name appears on the site name we all post on. That is truly sad. I'm curious who you all think is currently releasing real funk...uncut..hardcore...funk. Not seeing a whole lotta funk talent out there.

But they are probably the funkiest white boys around... RHCP are NOT funk. Not now, not ever. Actually, the RHCP was funk metal within the first 4 albums.

Funkadelic is mostly psychedelic rock with some funk thrown into the mix. Now Parliament, that's some real funk .....despite that it was THE SAME band using two different names. Come on Funkenstein, you know better than that. Funk, Rock, & Soul can co-exist.

The same band with two different names, and different kinds of music But actually, it wasn't the exact same band. For instance, George used Bootsy for most Parliament cuts ('Bootsy is more funk than rock' -GC), and they had different bassists play their Funkadelic stuff, like Billy Bass etc It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers is not a funk band, for crying out loud. If just having "funk elements" qualifies a band as a funk band then Madonna is far much more a proper "funk band" than the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Like said, it all comes from the slap bass thing and people who had never listened a single funk record started calling it that anyway. The same thing has happened to other "lesser known" musical genres that have been misassosiated (largely) by teenagers who never bothered to find about things, but just used the genre associations as tags for different forms of mainstream rock music.
George Clinton stated that the reason why he accepted the offer to produce their first album was purely money, he didn't even know who the band was when he accepted the offer. As far as I know, the initial phonecall between the two parties was all about George asking for the amount of money that he'd get.
