Freaky Styley? I had no idea this even exsisted...

Critics and fans ignore this just as much as much as they ignore soul food buffets?

I remember when this came out I read a long Georg Clinton article and interview in some German Music Magazine where he talked about it... so it got me interested.. then in another magazine the critics praised it and made "Freaky Styley" their album of the month... so then I went out to get it

up to this day it remains the only RHCP album I own biggrin

Everyone cites Blood Sugar Sex Magik as Chili's best. But I tend to lean more towards Californication. It was John Frusciante's first album with them since his time in rehab. So it is kind of special. It's probably one of the greatest comeback albums of all-time. There are so many great songs. Around the World has the dirtiest funk rock bass riff I've ever heard.

red hot chili peppers used to be really good in the eighties. like a slicker but sillier version of fishbone.

i think george was very strapped for cash around this time though so i wouldnt necessarily take his production of it as an endorsement of the band (even then)

RHCP are NOT funk. Not now, not ever.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I don't know about the cashflow, but RHCP and PFunk share an LA vibe. Matter-of-fact, PFunk's music director Dewayne Blackbyrd McKnight (George's AA sponsor, btw) had a brief stint in the band folowing Slovak's death (this is pre-Mother's Milk and John Frusicante). Byrd was unclear on why the stint was so short (some say a "lack of chemistry"), but despite a threat to burn down their studio Flea and Keidis are on good terms to show up (in te audience) at ocassional shows.

Also, don't forget RHCP opened for George's 50th Anniversary Concert in 2005.

Ehm... I don't like Funkadelic as much as I like the stuff they did as 'Parliament'. Funkadelic is mostly psychedelic rock with some funk thrown into the mix. Now Parliament, that's some real funk cool

GC himself has made a lot of crap too. Most of the stuff he's done after the seventies is just dreadfully boring or utter crap.

Oh, I'm rooted deep in the funk, sister. The keyword here being 'funk'. Now that does NOT include a bunch of stupid whiteys jumping around nekkid. Anthony Kiedis is also such a freaking boring and horrible vocalist... disbelief
The only reason people call RHCP funk in the first place is because of Flea's funk influenced slap bass lines.
Still, pretty much EVERY DAMN SONG I've ever heard from the band have sucked balls and ain't much funk going on there either.

It might also be cause when they recorded as 'Funkadelic' they brought the geeetarr to the fore. Now, I don't object to some guitar soloing and stuff, but enuff is enuff. I don't want to hear no damn 15 min guitar solos.
Guitar doesn't bring the funk, the bass and drums do.
That's why I prefer Parliament.

Hey, only one of them was in diapers lol
Anyways, RHCP has that whole 'punk' attitude, which I despise anyways.

Hadn't heard 'Freaky Styley' before so I checked it out on youtube

There's nothing especially funky about that tune.
I mean, funk is supposed to hit you in a certain way. This tune is just kinda bored

Guess RHCP will always be one of those bands that I just won't 'get'.
I find them extremely overrated and boring.
Same goes for Radiohead, Björk and Nirvana.
I just don't see what's so damn special about these four acts.
Might just be some sort of unexplainable personal bias, but there's NO RHCP song in existance that you can play for me that would make me change my mind lol
