she probably thought because no one was interested in 20 Y.O that no one would be interested in her tour...
she just completely gave up.. and I don't understand how and why they would have tour practices.... this NEXT album better be great... or its just over for janet... and she could have some babies..... even if it is great... i doubt people will buy it anyways... they give all that other musical crap a chance... but when it comes to blacklashed artist like janet.. they won't even try.... but then it goes back to janet for doing that nipple stunt..

I don't believe Janet is over. She is still an icon on the level of Madonna who still has legions of fans. Janet needs to keep her boyfriend out of her career, stop singing about her sexual exploits, stop trying to compete with the music generation of today (they have to get where she is at), and get back to singing the catchy pop/r and b/dance music that put her on the map in the first place. Janet has never been and never will be an icon on the level of Madonna. Madonna is a global icon like Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley. Janet Jackson, on the other hand, had a consistent run of hits for about 15 years, and had huge success in the US. But an icon on the level of Madonna -- no. I agree with you that she needs to have an image and music makeover.

Also, a person is not over until the person decides he or she is. If Janet has the determination and drive to succeed again, there are a number of people who will support her.

She isn't blacklisted. Her quality of output is down and people aren't interested in buying the same album 3 times with each repeat being not much better or worse than the one before. People don't seem to care about her anymore. She hasn't done anything worthwhile in years. I would like her to grow up and start making more mature music. I'm sick of her same old stuff.
Someone above said she should have babies. I completely agree. If she can't, that's a different story, but she should try before it's too late. She's 40 and doesn't have much time left. She should also stop showing her cleavage and breasts to the world. We've all seen them many times. She doesn't have to pose like this anymore IMO.

No tour! Movie instead! Will be out October 12th! New album after that! Then hopefully a tour (if that album is successful)!

I totally agree. All this bullshit talk about nipplegate is just ridiculous. Her real fans love her and it didn't stop any fan from buying her albums. Unfortunately her music and style are stale. Not to mention that her voice is weak and we've all seen the same moves over and over again. [Edited 10/1/07 13:03pm]

The same thing that happened to the last one. Janet's got to stop this shit and just tour EVEN if the album under performs. She might not do as well as in the past, but she'll hardly be playing clubs anytime soon (unless she keeps making bonehead career moves with her music).

Frankly, Madonna's quality of output is down but she is not only still selling but improved on the last one. Why? Good career moves, something Janet hasn't been capable of in a damn long time. She screwed up releasing the singles on DJ and dragged out "20 YO" for too damn long (first semi successful single released in May/June....the second with the album in Sept...this ain't Europe or the 1990s!). She is still a pariah to a lot of people which is why she seems to take what she can get as far as appearances (and why they are sometimes spread out strangely rather than hitting everything in a short time). She's not blacklisted but almost as bad, she's b-listed! [Edited 10/1/07 15:12pm]

it could turn things around a bit. Yes, I think so too! People still like her old hits and it's been a while since she was last on tour! I'm sure a tour would a success... regardless of record sales... especially in the US... it might even help her for her next album!

Janet has sold millions of albums, made very entertaining videos that made MTV exciting in the 90's along with Madonna. Every artist has their peaks in their career (Michael Jackson-Thriller, Prince-Purple Rain, Madonna-Like a Prayer etc), just because an artist does not sell as they once did (who is) does not make them any less relevent. Janet just needs an image makeover (like Madonna), keep her boobs in her bra, and get back to making good music. She needs to mature and grow with her fans. If Madonna was still performing with cone tits and posing naked on the highway, people would say the same about her. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

Yes, Janet sure was/is an Icon to many (I'm a huge Janet fan as well), especially in the US! But still, worldwide she never reached the status Madonna reached! In Europe she still is often times viewed as one of Michael's sisters and is frequently mixed up with LaToya... at least by people who aren't into dance/pop/Rnb music! It pains me to say this, but Janet always played second fiddel to Madonna! Madonna reached a status, that she is also a household name to people, who aren't that interested in music! But I think in the US and also in Asia (she's still hugely successful there) she has it on her cards to become real popular again, with the right music and decisions! In Europe, I'm not that sure, the non-interest in her last couple of albums here has been frightening!

Despite the pitfalls she is going through in her career at the moment, you still cant take away her many accomplishments in the industry. I remember a time when there was a backlash against Madonna too. Does Janet have the marketing ability that Madonna had to stay on top, no, but that does not make her any less relevent. Before Madonna became a momma, she sold her ass too. Again, Janet just needs an image and sound makeover. Yes, I'm one of the people who (still) view her as an icon... a model of a female performer, whom many of the nowadays young female performer follow!
And you're right... 1992 to 1996 was also no nice period for Madonna either... but she turned it around! Maybe Janet should also do a musical and become a momma! [Edited 10/1/07 16:17pm]

i think the revisionist history is hillarious...yes, janet was (is) an icon...so was (is) madonna...damn, i can't stand mariah, britney or b'weave but i will still acknowledge their popular appeal...
and kids, if you don't know what your talkin bout (especially if you weren't alive during that time) its probably best you stay out of the debate and learn from your elders. or at least back your sh*t up with some historical facts. i learned that lesson with a quickness. Space for sale...

Please. I never said Janet Jackson is or was not an icon. I said she is not an icon (global, I mean) on the same level as Madonna, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley. One does not need to have been alive in the '80s to know this. Why is this fact so difficult to accept amongst Janet Jackson fanatics?

I think she's an icon but I never ever thought of her in the same league or level as Prince, Michael and Madonna. They are the top whether I like(d) them or not and everyone else came after. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
