I disagree. I think people do want to give Janet a chance and I think people want to see her do well, but her output as of lately has been mediocre compared with her past work.

So have Prince, Madonna, Lionel Richie and MJ's. It' happens. I often wonder just how very difficult it is to constantly make an album and create music and write lyrics to keep old fans happy and new fans coming. I haven't seen ANY artist that's been able to pull that off YET!

AGAIN, OPINION! I'd love to hear some facts and why the facts exists in terms of their concerts.

Costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier

4 differnt set changes.

The first section about Female Empowerment
the Second section about sexual exatascy relating to religious extascy and the shame and guilt leading to perscution in the name of God
the Dick Tracy Send up
the Old Hollywood voyage

the iconic enocre of Holiday

the message of family and friends sticking together.

the show was more complex than RN1814. and Janet's shows have basically been the same formula ever since.

Okay. The first part in part is a fact as to what happened, not a fact as to how allot or even most folks feel. Again, opinion. OPINION.

I'd also love it if she came out with an album with a sound that was similar and as creative as "Velvet Rope". I actually do like Janet's music (though it may be hard to tell in this thread lol) and would really like to see her do well.

it's hard to see someone you admire put out subpar material.

i understand.

Yeah! I feel the same way about other major artists. Some behave as if she's the ONLY one putting out subpar work.

the only artist who is putting out better work is Kylie.

most everyone else is low balling. Though Confessions was a much better effort.

Nope, I disagree.

The white media clearly wanted to destroy her career after the superbowl scandal.

I thought janet jackson was supposed to be doin a world tour this year?
She went on and on about it and it hasnt happened

She wisely cancelled the tour.It would have been a mistake for her to tour right now, with two flop albums and the 'Superbowl' fiasco still hanging over her like a dark cloud. No,Janet should take some time to re-evaluate things. She should come back with a STRONG album next year, then do a kickass world tour. She was smart to participate in Tyler Perry's movie 'Why Did I Get Married?'.All of his films have been successful and Janet desperately needs to be associated with a successful project, for a change. In the coming weeks, she'll be getting alot of positive press, which will be refreshing.

I see some Americans still haven't realised that Janet was a phenomenon in the US only. In Europe, she was a star, but not a phenomenon. There's a big difference. As for this touring business some of you need to wake up and realise something. Your girl was only ever in it for ego food, and her fragile self esteem was fed by success, not love of music. I guarantee you if Prince never sold another record, he would still tour because it's who he is. It's what he does. Cyndi Lauper hasn't had a hit in 18 years, but she's never stopped regularly performing and touring. Because it's who she is. It's what she does. The same goes for a hundred other ex-stars who still tour. Janet is not in that bracket. She has no love of the craft because she knows in her heart what her fans are blind to, and that is that she's only ever been as good as her choreographer and her budget. She's the kind of star who could not have emerged in the pre MTV days when you had to pay your dues before live audiences.

She CANNOT perform without dancers. Those dancers need to be paid for. If she were to tour without them, her shortcomings would be too obvious. She was a construct from day one. She could never sing and her every move was choreographed by others. You all were worshipping a muppet. The muppet took validation from numbers. The numbers are down now, so what's left to motivate her to tour? Remember, Janet had her career handed to her on a plate. She never performed in shit dives for chump change like Madonna did. Janet wouldn't have had the dedication to go through that. She's a spoilt rich girl. She ain't gonna turn into a hard grafter now.

Are you fucking kidding me?

First of all, Rodya is a male name. It is a nickname of a longer Russian name. No, I am not Russian, but I am a MALE, as I have explained to you several times. Just because one likes dance music does not necessarily mean that person is a female. I understand that this is a difficult concept for you to grasp, but one day you might.

Second of all, when did I downgrade Michael Jackson when comparing him to Madonna? I am a much bigger fan of the former than of the latter. So check yourself.

Finally, Elvis? WTF.

Thank you. Unlike some people in this thread, I can appreciate her impact on popular culture, entertainment, and music. While I question how some of her fans laud her musical talents, I think a number of her songs are some of the best dance music of the '80s and '90s.

Apparently, appreciating her impact means that one is downgrading Michael Jackson and liking Elvis. WTF?

If you tried your hardest you still couldn't be more wrong. I HATE Elvis! It's only in recent years I've even been willing to concede that he was a decent performer, but that's all I'll give him. Chuck Berry OWNS Elvis.

[Edited 10/2/07 11:48am]

So what if she's only really big in the US. Is there some unwritten rule that states an artist isn't an artist unless they are as big outside the US as they are in? Janet most certainly can dance without dancers. She simply choses not to. Again, her choice. Don't like her, don't watch her. There's an array of artists to choose from to enjoy.

It doesn't mean anything to me where Janet is or isn't big, but I'm a stickler for Truth. When I see my girlfriend Truth being trampled over and dragged into a dark cave I have to speak up. So let's be clear once and for all, Janet was nowhere near as popular worldwide as Madonna, Whitney, MJ, or even Prince. Sorry to break that to the ostriches, but that's the truth.
btw, of course Janet can dance without dancers. (It's a choreographer she can't dance without. lol) The point is her act has always been about compensating for her own shortcomings by piling loads of dancers on the stage. Sure, she could dance without them, but it would be boring because she lacks the voice or the personality to command a big stage by herself.

I think you're sadly mistaken there. More people know of Madonna songs anyway and obviously prefer her music. I bet more people can name Madonna songs than Janet Jackson songs.

I think it's silly to say that just because you are not a fan of Madonna's that she is not an Icon. That's just crazy. You remind me of those people who always hate on Michael and refuse to admit that he has any talent or any impact on pop culture. The point is that just because you dont' like an artist doesn't mean you should downgrade or downplay their accomplishments just because you are not a fan. Madonna is an icon and the Queen of Pop whether you like it or not.
[Edited 10/1/07 20:05pm]

I NEVER TRIED TO HATE on madonna.. I have nothing against her... I think she's cute... and like a few songs... but her music is not appealing to me... just because a song is more well known does NOT mean its better...

madonna is not the queen of pop... maybe if you want to think of her that way.. but majority of people can say she is NOT>..

no one can deny michael is the king of pop.. that was earned...

you guys gave madonna that title.. lol lol

the same thing your saying im doing with madonna is the thing your doing with janet....

if madonna was that appealing i would like her... she is not...

watch me ..king of pop my ass ...that "title" was given by his good friend elizabeth taylor on oprah..neither one of those women r rock journalists or in the music business. unlike a title like His royal badness which was done by someone that reports on music ...if he's the king of pop then who is James brown? God?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
