Radio stations not supporting artists

Man look at all these great new soul albumns comming out that won't get any radio play in my area. this has been a trend for way too long. and all the groups including some more who are comming out soon-including ashanti will probably get caught in the shuffle. Even Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and a host of others didn't get airplay. some have dropped cd, well known artists and rappers have put out cd's and didn't get much spin. while songs like DJ unk, T pain (sick of now) Superman (don't know who sings it) are getting spun twice an hour.

How is radio in your area? Ours seems to have turned into a hang out and party and women, drugs leanin and that is it. R&b stations act like there are no groups comming out and resort to oldies.

Define "radio stations". Heart and Soul, the eighties to current R&B station that plays a wide spectrum of R&B but isn't for kids (that station is 50, Hot Jamz), on Sirius plays Chaka's "Angel", Jill's "Hate On Me" and Angie's new one. I don't listen to Hot Jamz often, but I don't doubt they play more Kelly and Beyonce and younger artists. That's why satellite radio is where it's at...and you can listen in your car! $12.95 isn't a lot when you consider how much you pay for cable!

True, that many are turning to internet radio, and xm and sirius. I just felt that radio is the primary. I see these neo soul, and soul artists and rappers comming out with lp's and I don't hear a single get play in my area. if I do, they get one single played and I wonder how the lp is doing. I am talking about current artists, artists we are familiar with and so on. Radio acts like nothing ever comes out and go to playing a bunch of old school, which I like, but just missing that balance that was going on in the nineties and eighties.

I saw a thread that showed lp's (cd's) comming out and if it weren't for the internet, I wouldn't have known they were out.

I was saying that kelly, beyonce, eve, ti, kenye, 50, and so on are not getting much air play, and they are the more popular artists. Then you have the ones for the thirty and up--Michelle n'degeochello, rashan patterson, leela james, queen latifa, d angelo, and many new up and comming are not getting introduced on te adult r&b stations. but they play oldies like there is no music comming out. Even if the music is not that good the balance would be nice. If Envogue or Mint condition were to come out they would get no air play or one single get played a few times. If the ojays came out with something new they would get little air play. But R kelly will get plenty, even on a rap station. Lucky Guy

and like I was noticing the post of the music dropping on the 25th. They will barely get introduced.

I've been saying this for years. It's because there are monopolies that can decide who has a hit and who doesn't by simply not playing them.

I took radio stations that play current music off my dial in 1997. Before then, The Barkays, Cameo, and War had an album in the mid 1990s that got little or no airplay whatsoever because they were still making funk. Diana Ross also had a jam called "Take Me Higher" that got absolutely no radio airplay because it was house music and it was definately harder than anything on the radio at that time....that lets you know music has really turned to shit when Diana's music is harder than everyone else's. If it doesn't sound shit hop influenced, the radio isn't going to play it. That's why I took all current stations off my dial and decided they all can go to hell.

I would assume you are talking about slide from the barkays 48hrs cd. That single got a lot of airplay in my city but the megamix single from that cd failed to gain any airplay. Cameo did a remake of slave's slide and renamed it slyde from their in the face of funk cd got a little airplay in my city. I didn't even know war had a new cd out around that time. The barkays and cameo have made at least one or two new cd's since 1994 but neither resembles the funkiness of those cd's.

IT DEPENDS WHAT KIND OF RADIO STATIONS YOU TALK ABOUT.

But big radio stations play what they think their audience want to hear...
Same for Tv...

Funny how peope love to blame everything (labels, radio, tv...) but never the public

I said it many time before....

But the thing is that radio and labels used to be some kind of "filter" just like newspapers and newshows would actual EDIT shit stories out like Britney going to Quiznos, that got more attention than 3 marines getting blown up. The thing is just because if you put PORN up against CNN more people would watch PORN doesnt mean its the thing to do, someone has to change the climate, everyone blames this and that, but no one takes the lead and actually says no we are actually going to lose money or lose ratings because U should listen or hear this, no one has guts anymore.

Cameo's "Slyde", The Barkays' "Slide" got absolutely no radio airplay in my area. The only way I knew they were out, is because I saw their videos on BET. But The Barkays' "Put A Little Nasty On It" should have been all over the R&B stations at the time. That was a sho-nuff jam from hell but it got no airplay whatsoever.

War had a song in the 1990s called "Peace Sign". It got played maybe two or three times on the radio and then the DJs went right back to business as usual, which was shit hop. George Clinton also had a remake of Prince's "Erotic City" which got no airplay. It wasn't a great remake but it was still better than 90% of the stuff that was on the radio at the time. Even Prince himself, if it wasn't a slow song, the radio got to where they wouldn't play it. I've never seen such rediculous years of radio in my life and they still exist.

Yeah, I know about Cameo and The Barkays albums that have been released since then (which have NO funk on them) and I left them sitting in the record store to collect dust. lol
