No, I meant Michael Jackson solo, but that can include J5, too. And from what I've seen people are too busy dancing to much giggling and what not. IMO his musical presence still commands much respect and attention--even if his personal life doesn't.

i'll say up until thriller ..after that ..music turned 2 shit, his singing was replaced by grunts ..give me the J5/Jacksons and then u'r talking about quality dance material

That's your opinion. But IMO opinion a lot of his "bad" stuff is better than the "good" stuff out now. Remember the Time, The Way You Make Me Feel, hell even You Rock My World are good dance songs. BTW, the Thriller album is not the Masterpiece everyone makes it out to be. Off the Wall is a MUCH better album with better dance music.

motown-the corporation wrote most of their songs which included jermaine on lead vocals as well

the jacksons -this is when the jackson brothers started writting material with the help of the philly sound

michael - ..quincy ....teddy riley ..etc ..etc...etc ...
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

If I'm not mistaken, they still didn't write that much of the material when they got to Epic, especially on the first three albums, including the ones with Gamble and Huff (i.e. Philly Sound). It wasn't until Triumph that they had more of a hand in songwriting.

The way you put a song over has nothing to do with who wrote the song and the Jackson 5/The Jacksons have a very distinct sound that has nothing to do with a name change.

still u cant deny that during these times, the music was more danceable..now a days its about beats and sounds more than grooves and rythym. even his singing has change 2 the sounds of someone with emotion 2 the sounds of someone in need of exlax

1. Prince (1978-1984)
2. Michael Jackson (The Jacksons years and Off The Wall....Destiny/Off The Wall/Triumph)
3. Janet Jackson (1982-1989)
4. Madonna (Vogue/Erotica era)

I agree with your analysis. In their earlier years both Prince and Michael produce the most funky stuff. Even up till today not many people can sit on their arses when Don't Stop Till You Get Enough comes on.

By The way The Jacksons first entire self-penned/produce album was Destiny.

Scorpion

Mike & Janet
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

So agree. I have notice the change in Michael's vocals since the Bad era. Not that he sounds drastically different, but that melodic and smooth sound seem to have been replace with lots of grunt, screeches and strains.
