Springsteen on Today show ...

Was just curious what everyone thought ...

I am NOT a huge Bruce fan - I do like some of his songs of course. And i respect his claim to "the boss" etc...

I bought "the rising" and i was disapointed. This new album got the rare "5 stars" from Rolling Stone apparently so it could be good .

Comments ? wink confused smile
Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Bruce is a true musician. He doesn't have gimmicks, he just plays real music with heartfelt messages. Many may not like his music because it lacks gimmicks, but for those of us that enjoy real music, he's great.

As far as Rolling Stone goes, they always give Bruce, The Stones, Dylan 5 star ratings. I wouldn't give that much thought. It really doesn't mean anything IMO.

The new album is MUCH better than the Rising. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.

i'm not really a springsteen fan myself but it was nice seeing him this morning per4ming songs from his new album instead of shit from born in the usa ...unlike someone else would do rolleyes (superbowl 2007)
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The Rising was very overrated because of the 9/11 theme and people wanting Bruce to make it all better. There were one or two excellent songs on there, and it was brilliantly produced, but I'd heard all the melodies before and lyrically it was pukeworthy. By the time I got to the 6th track I was saying "If he says the word "faith" one more time I'm gonna fly to New Jersey and open up a can of whoop-ass on him". Well, he said it about 15 more times. I said the exact same thing about the word "kiss" , and it also kept coming back like a recurrent virus. And of course "darkness". I was like "Bruce, find some new words you lazy son of a bitch!". Did he listen? Hell no, he rolled that one out nearly 50 times over the course of the album.

As for The Today show, uhhh yeah, I'm sure it was great.

Thing is, for most people all Prince is, is "Purple Rain" and Bruce is "The Boss".

Does it help that Prince keeps doing all the "classics" live instead of the new stuff? No.
I'm firmly planted in denial
