Vanessa Hudgins, Oscar De La Hoya, and What's Wrong With Us. VH and ODLH are in a bit of a pickle at the moment. Both had private pictures explode onto the international landscape.
Ms. Hudgins is an up and coming singer who had a squeaky clean image up until this point. Oscar is an OLYMPIC gold medalist who is still a contender in the boxing world. Both face possible career setbacks because of this. My point is why does this have to be? I feel the finger is being pointed at the wrong targets. I suppose I consider myself a progressive thinker. These pictures don't faze me in any way, shape or form. But what really ticks me off is that someone sold these people out. These were private pictures meant for private eyes. Someone decided it would be funny and embarrassing to "expose" these pictures to the world, and THAT really annoys me. These exposers should be the targets of our ridicule and disgust. I know someone is going to get on here and say you have to be careful, or public figures don't have private lives or any number of bullsh!t replies, but to do so misses the point entirely. Vanessa might have stepped in it. Until now she was praising the virtues of doing nothing wrong and remaining squeeky clean and holding it up as a virtue. But who said nude pictures is wrong? If anything it makes her the most interesting thing in a sea of marginally talented blandness known as the "High School Musical" franchise. I was flipping through the channels (always a danger) and this show was singing the praises of "good" girls and how it's such a great thing. They mention HSM and say something like, "Except that Vanessa girl. We won't talk about her." I thought to myself how odd, to praise modest virtue over talent or even mild interest. What a dumb way to sell yourself. Meaning it shouldn't even come up in a discussion on your success or talent. Plus it'll backfire on you as soon as you "slip" up or the media gets bored and turns on you. I've never, ever heard Oscar utter a homophobic word in public. If he has please print. So WHY are these pictures so scandalous? I know the obvious reason so maybe I'm saying about myself that I'm just too beyond this to care. But c'mon people. Whatever trick sold these pictures for a little money and worse, to try and embarrass another human being is unforgiveable. I also always thought that sex was a dumb way to sell records. Britney is seeing that now and Janet's career went south as soon as she got old and people decided she wasn't sexy anymore (and compared to wipper-snappers like Beyonce and Rhianna, is she?). But neither felt it necessary to actually spend all those years learning the subtleties of singing, or the process of songwriting. Hell they could've even went to one of the better music production schools and learned SOMETHING about music. But I digress. The point is scandal is old, and as soon as we start holding the TMZ's and the "Showbiz Tonight's (which is the most hypocritical show I've ever seen) accountable, we'll be swimming in this mess infinitum. | |
