OUR LADY MADONNA'S QUEST FOR WORLD PEACE: She and Guy met Shimon Peres (Forget Bono!)

Shimon Peres meeting Madonna and Guy Ritchie

In these image released by Israel's Government Press Office, Israel President Shimon Peres stands with pop star Madonna and husband British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, center, during a visit to the President's residence in Jerusalem, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007. These are also the first official images from Madonna and Guy's visit to Israel.

Madonna and Guy were seen entering the home of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate in Jerusalem after the end of the Jewish New Year at sunset Saturday. Peres gave Madonna a copy of the Old Testament, the Jewish Bible, in the meeting that she requested, Israeli TV reported. The meeting was closed to the press.

lol She'll get that reactor dismantled ASAP for sure!!

But seriously...encouraging another leader to use religion in their decision-making (I guess that's what she's doing here) won't lead to peace, it will more likely lead to more conflict.

No, you should be ashamed for putting her on such a pedestal. After all, she's only an entertainer. They are a dime a dozen. She's not anything special.

nod

That is true. Like someone on the Org said, before 1982 Madonna referred to the Biblical figure. Now it refers to either the latter or the 1980s, 90s, and 2000s cultural phenomenon.

Advocate and a few others credit her for making gay cool by being the first celebrity to appear on their cover

also she was the first celebrity to have an AIDS benifit in 1985, when even our President couldn't say HIV or AIDS.
grammar edit.

so? she's good at marketing. again, i'm saying people worship this woman as though she's done something...anything...special.

i like her music. she's very entertaining. but she's a human being and she isn't doing anything special. it's shocking to me that in 2008 we still worship at the altar of celebrity.

alot of her friends from the early days died.

People were scared of people with AIDS, she was with Martin when he died and people were afaird to go around her because they thought she got AIDS from him.

Do you even realize what it was like in the early days? Have you ever talked to the elders of gay community in SF to hear their stories?!? I can connect you with people.

She risked her carear to raise money for people who were dying.

The President of the US couldn't even say AIDS and Madonna, a meer entertainer, was raising Millions of dollars and visiting people dying of AIDS.
