"Get Off," the B-Side to "New Power Generation"? It would lose to Foxy's.
"Gett Off" wins, by length, over Foxy's, simply because it's one of Prince's best songs of the 90's, one of the only times he ever successfully incorporated hip-hop into his classic style of funk rock. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Foxy's "Get Off" is better by 10,000 miles. Prince's "Get Off" isn't even one of his better songs.

I'll have to go with Foxy's "Get Off." I'm assuming, Mr. Moderator, you're talking about the Prince song "Gett Off," from the "Diamonds and Pearls" album. [Edited 9/21/07 14:29pm] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Oh, it's not even close in my book.
Gett Off was a cool song, but not even close to being Prince's best. Get Off by Foxy was/is one of the FUNKIEST disco songs ever written and some of the baddest bass playing ever recorded. Foxy gets my vote. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

Why is that such a key criteria on this forum? I thought vainandy posted twice. But to me it's the truth. I side with Andy, the faster the song, the hotter it is, to me. I like the slower beats and shit but if you want a workout, "Get Off" is better than "Gett Off", unless that workout's sex.

Fast stuff is for the dance floor, slow stuff is for the bedroom, and midtempo serves no purpose whatsoever. There's no reason for midtempo to be even made. Andy is a four letter word.

I find Prince's "Gett Off" to be funky in a lame way of describing funky. It tries to be funky, but it doesn't have rhythmic flow to it like most classic funk songs. To paraphrase vainandy, maybe Prince had been so "artsy/fartsy" for so long that when he tried to push the Funk button it misfired. Prince's "Get Off" was just, I don't know how to describe it, I guess the word would be "bland". It wasn't quite fast enough, it lacked something (I don't know what, it just lacked something), and the fact that it sounded slightly hip hoppish was a turnoff also. Andy is a four letter word.

As a funk cut, I agree. As a Prince cut, it works great. Immediately prior to and after "Gett Off," he made several attempts at incorporating hip-hop into his sound. A few came off pretty well ("Tick, Tick Bang"). Others? Oy . . . "Gett Off" rides that mid-tempo hip-hop loop and Prince provides some flourish to it. I think that's what he was going for, so I don't think he misfired. I just think he had a different target. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

See my post immediately below yours. I think he was trying to answer hip-hop's growing popularity with that track. Which is why the "funk" elements were blunted and chopped up, as they were on most hip-hop tracks of that day. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I liked "Cream" better than "Gett Off". Though I did dig another Prince "hip-hop joint" ("My Name is Prince"), I only enjoyed it when another man rapped instead of Mr. Nelson. As a hip-hop head, I don't know how he thought that either, but he did! In the year of The Low End Theory, Death Certificate, Apocalypse '91, and Cypress Hill, among others, Prince's "answer" to hip-hop came off as, well, a Prince song. But it was still a good Prince song and a club favorite backinaday. I liked "Cream" better than "Gett Off".
It's a close call for me. But of all Prince's attempts to incorporate hip-hop into his sound, "Gett Off," for my was among the best of the bunch. Though I did dig another Prince "hip-hop joint" ("My Name is Prince"), I only enjoyed it when another man rapped instead of Mr. Nelson.
[Edited 9/21/07 15:02pm] I thought the groove was interesting. But those rhymes? Oh my. [Edited 9/21/07 15:16pm] Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
