Who was David Bowie again?

Kidding. Huge fan here. Really. I just wish he'd do something else these days than sign re-issues that you can win on bowienet.

Oh my word, I wouldn't know where to start when declaring my love for David Bowie's music. He is an astonishing artist - amazing! love

Funnily enough, I have been playing his 'Black Tie, White Noise' album for about the last week or so. The first album that got me into him and one of my favourites. Not the best, maybe, but it's such an underrated album.

I just can't imagine the huge puzzle of music there is with his piece missing. Does not compute. nuts

I'm a David Bowie fan, and my favorite Bowie album is Station To Station.

I met David Bowie very briefly in Feb 1996 when I asked for his autograph. He looked really cool, and really had iconic star quality and I was in complete awe of him.

nod Absolutely. Lord knows, Bowie enthusiasts like Blackguitarist,Anx & and I have discussed in multiple threads in detail about the phases, depth, and progression of Bowie's cataglogue.

<--loves The Bowie. (like Batman, DB's achieved status deserving a "the" before his name. That's just how great he is.)

People who don't like Bowie have got to be on fucking crack. The man's a musical and creative genius, and sexy as hell. Not many people older than my parents I find attractive, but of those I do he's definitely number one.

I love Bowie, just not as much I love Marc Bolan or Prince.

My favourite Bowie album at the moment is Hunky Dory,

hmmm, I like your theory! biggrin

Actually, Bolan once said in an interview that he loves Bowie and would sleep with him if they weren't both men.

I like him as a person. Never got into his music somehow.

I only have some of Bowie's albums -

Ziggy Stardust - s'alright but patchy smile.

Low - Good, but I prefer the instrumental sections.

Heroes - Better, but aside from the title track (one of my all-time fav.tracks by anyone), I again mostly like the instrumentals and the wonderfully nutty 'The Secret Life of Arabia'.

Lodger - Interesting - 'Boys Keep Swinging' is a good track.

Black Tie, White Noise - Under-rated - Has a couple of goodies with 'Jump They Say' and 'Miracle Good Night'. David really starts to get his act together after his rather dodgy '80s smile.

'Buddha of Suburbia' - Not played this much since getting it, which says something. I'm not passing final judgement, but provisionally, I'd say - Over-rated. But definitely the 'missing link' between 'Black Tie' and -

1.Outside - Imo Bowie's wierdest and most ambitious album. Some really interesting textures, sounds and ideas, tho you can really tell he's been listening to Scott Walker's excellent album 'Tilt', released sligtly earlier. It influences 'Outside' both vocally and sonically. Found you out, David! biggrin.I love 'I Have Not Been to Oxford Town' and 'Through These Architects Eyes'.

Earthling - I'm sure this will cause consternation among many Bowie fans, but this is my favourate Bowie album and the one I play the most by far for some reason. Catchy songs, interesting, fun music and dynamics in the songs, superheavy guitars and it has one of Bowie's greatest songs imo, 'Dead Man Walking'. I love this, especially the amazing way the mix gradually transforms track by track at the end of the song from a full-on electronic arrangement, gradually breaking down into totally live playing and finally into a classic Mike Garson piano improvisation to end with. Awesome. Other fav 'Earthling' tracks are 'Little Wonder', 'Telling Lies', 'Looking For Satellites' and 'Law'. The 'drum and bass' elements in this are good imo, but are often over-stated in reviews, as there is a ton of blistering rock in here too.

I also love his version of 'Nature Boy', famously done by Nat King Cole of all people smile, from the 'Moulin Rouge' soundtrack, and the Massive Attack remix is cool too.

I keep meaning to get more of his stuff, but never seem to get round to it. smile

Someone at work saw my LIVING COLOUR hoodie (with rainbow logo) and got into their head that I listen to questionably gay artists like Bowie (Prince?). I told him "Naw, but his stuff is a lot cooler than the shitty hip-hop you listen to."

Damn Straight. Your comments was on target in reference about Bowie specifically especially with a a classic Funk Jam like Fame. Nuff Said.

Big time fan & my wife's an even bigger one. I got us front-row tix to his LA Shrine Auditorium gig a couple years ago & it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

From Man Who Sold The World through to Scary Monsters there's not a bad album in there though some are better than others. I especially like Low, Ziggy Stardust and side 1 of Scary Monsters but certainly you could make a couple amazing 80-minute mix CDs from that batch.

He also had the greatest guest appearance ever on the show Extras - this is for everyone who always wanted to meet their hero but were afrid to embarrass themselves:
