As a hip-hop head, I don't know how he thought that either, but he did! In the year of The Low End Theory, Death Certificate, Apocalypse '91, and Cypress Hill, among others, Prince's "answer" to hip-hop came off as, well, a Prince song. But it was still a good Prince song and a club favorite backinaday. It's a close call for me. But of all Prince's attempts to incorporate hip-hop into his sound, "Gett Off," for my was among the best of the bunch. Though I did dig another Prince "hip-hop joint" ("My Name is Prince"), I only enjoyed it when another man rapped instead of Mr. Nelson.
[Edited 9/21/07 15:02pm] I thought the groove was interesting. But those rhymes? Oh my. [Edited 9/21/07 15:16pm] Man Prince was W-A-C-K, WACK, on this song. I wonder if someone dare produced an answer record against that song too.

As a Prince cut, it works great. Save we're comparing Prince's "Gett Off" with a funky song. [Edited 9/21/07 15:29pm] The similarities are only in the title, and the question is one of preference, not comparison per se. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

OK, my preference is the song that's actually funky, not the clumsy attempt at sounding funky. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I like Prince's "Gett Off" and all but I have to go with the dance factor too! Foxy's "Get Off"! Even though for some reason I always thought Chic did that song.
The only people that could really dance to Prince's "Gett Off" were the folks in the video. [Edited 9/21/07 22:11pm]

Foxy's "Gett Off" reminds me of my old rollerskating days at the St Louis Park roller rink. But I would have to go with Prince's version because I have a relative who's in the video.

OK, my preference is the song that's actually funky, not the clumsy attempt at sounding funky. I love'em both for different reasons, but as I'm sometimes clumsy, maybe I relate to the "two-T" version more! Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I agree! That's what I love about the disco era, particularly the years 1978 and 79.The songs were FAST! Today's kids couldn't keep up with grooves that fast.If Foxy's "Get Off" comes on at a club, you gotta MOVE!! That's a serious ass-shaking groove right there. Prince's "Get Off" doesn't even come close.

Because they think everything can be made by just computers. Least with "Get Off", you had live instrumentation mixed in with there and the vocalists were going off unlike this generation that rather dance to one beat very slowly.

Hell, they don't even dance any more. How could they, everything is too slow nowadays. On the dance floor, they do stupid hand and arm gestures looking like they are swatting off flies. Andy is a four letter word.

That's what I'm sayin! Back in the day,we had real JAMS! I grew up on this stuff.Somewhere along the day,the younger artists and producers forgot about the importance of a good groove.

Gett Off was a cool song, but not even close to being Prince's best. Get Off by Foxy was/is one of the FUNKIEST disco songs ever written and some of the baddest bass playing ever recorded. Foxy gets my vote. Sums it up for me. It still makes me dance.
