MJ, "Gone Too Soon"

I can't believe I'm actually starting an MJ thread (way to continue to feed the problem, huh? lol ), but is there anyone besides me who thinks this track is hated on WAY too much?

Yeah, I know the production is artificial, and I know the lyrics read like a Hallmark card, but the overall message.. the lovely, true-to-life metaphors.. the world-class vocals.. and subtle musical touches like the keyboard flourishes and string section... just manage to choke me up like a motherfucker everytime. cry Then again, I'm the emotional/sentimental type.

I hadn't dug out my copy of Dangerous in God knows how long, and was amazed at how this track moves me in the same way it did back when I was an MJ junkie.

I cannot hate the song because it was dedicated to AIDS victim Ryan White.

I never liked that song. I even like "Heal The World" better and I really hate that one, but "Gone Too Soon" is just too sappy for me, the lyrics, the whole thing is just bleh. I always skip that track when I listen to "Dangerous".
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Yeah I usually skip the song as well.

But again I could never bring myself to hate it because of its dedication to Ryan White. I always think of him when I hear this song.

It's my least favorite song on the album by a pretty large margin. It's OK, but nothing special.

I love "Keep the Faith" and "Heal the World," though. hmph!

lol come on. That song is awful.

I mean

Like A Rainbow, Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye?
Gone Too Soon?

Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One Day
Gone One Night?

Who the hell came up with that mess? I hope it wasn't Michael, but knowing him and the high cheese factor some of his songs have I wouldn't be suprised lol.

At the very least, if nothing else "Heal The World" is a very catchy song.

*Never thought I'd see the day when I'd actually be defending heal the world* Damn u Bboy87! lol

Childhood is awful (and don't even get me started on the video) but "Gone Too Soon" is just as bad. I can't even get through "Gone Too Soon" without laughing hysterically.

Yeah this gets me to a degree. The context of the song and MJ's vocal are what do it. The lyrics are from another era but I still like them.
"Loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon" come on that rings true.

The alternate version that was released recently is beautiful. I always get emotional when I listen to it. It makes you remember losing someone you loved and the good times that you had and could've had..... neutral

Of the ballads on "Dangerous", only "Will You Be There" and "Keep the Faith" held me. "Heal the World" and "Gone too Soon" were cheesy as fuck.

Why didn't he do R&B ballads during the 1990s? What was going on with that?

And no, don't tell me "You Are Not Alone" was because that's a POP ballad.

I wonder why he gave them that song in the first place too? He would've ripped it a new asshole but no he had to be the good uncle. neutral I'm only saying this because Tito's sons can't sing for shit to me, lol.

Gone Too Soon is nice. Great vocal and a good song if you can stomach that side to Michael.

I personally love The Lost Children from Invincible which even his die-hard obsessives seem to loathe.

I've never minded a bit of sentimental dreck...

"gone to soon" is great on the odd listen. Particularly the delivery of the last bridge to the finishing line. Spine tingling on a good stereo system.

Cut "heal the world" from Dangerous I say. Pale vocal performance and song in comparison to "gone".

They can sing, but they don't have really strong voices. Tarryl is the most talented. He wrote "Change Me" for Ruben Studdard and "Rumors" for Lindsay Lohan
