Natalie Cole and the R&R Hall of Fame issue I've just looked at parts of Natalie Cole's "Soul Train Music Awards" lifetime achievement tribute and noticed that the woman was one of the baddest soul singers of the 1970s and early-'80s and had maintained a very successful career for about 20 of those years and yet she's not inducted to the ROCK & ROLL Hall of Fame?
I wonder why? Could it have to do with politics or her obvious different musical genre choices (she went from funk and soul in the '70s to pop and rock and soft ballads in the '80s and jazz in the '90s and in between nowadays) or the fact that she and her father are not really "rock & roll"? Or do you think they think she was an Aretha clone in her early years? Obviously the fact Natalie, Donna, Chaka and 'em aren't in the Hall of Fame and only a handful of R&B legends like Aretha, Etta and Ruth Brown are is astounding to me. You think she'd be a shoo-in for the fifth-annual R&B Hall of Fame if it ever happens? Discuss. I know Harley is apprehensious against Natalie because of the "Aretha clone" rumors. And personally I feel Ms. Cole SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame since she DID have a rock career so to say.

The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame sucks donkey scrotum. Rock N' Roll means actually modern music from the mid-50's until now. They are tryin' to make this the "Rock" Hall of Fame, "Rock" and "Rock N' Roll" are two different things.
Natalie Cole should be in the fame, as should Ohio Players, Pattie LaBelle, Joe Tex, Alice Cooper, Little Anthony and the Imperials, ect... PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

Not anymore, I've grown outta that. I still believe that Marvin Yancy billed her as the direct disciple to Aretha Franklin, although its not her fault(even though she chose to play that role willingly). But now, I think that she has MORE than a "Aretha clone" stamp to her credit and I'm sure she felt severely annoyed by the constant comparision(and mind you, career-deadly comparisions becoz if you're a clone then its a matter of time untill they 4get you over the next 'younger' clone). I don't you think you last this long in this biz without depth, substance and character(in which she possess) 'sides, The Cole seem like a COOL chic, you cannot get dull from her interviews,,,NEVER

African American females who are a little edger or more progressive than lets say Areatha are usually never considered. Things need to change!
Alice Cooper is a bit of a surprise, though. Seems like a slam dunk. Great songwriter, too. [Edited 9/21/07 7:31am]

Patti, Chaka and Natalie probably are the most edgiest black female artists to emerge after the arrival of Aretha. Together, they make Aretha Mary Poppins or some shit. But I feel if they already inducted the other women with edge (Etta James, Ruth Brown, Martha Reeves and Lavern Baker) then these three ladies should be shoo-ins by now.

Well the RR hall of fame to me gets no credit mainly for these reasons listed.
Inducted The Ronnettes (WHY?) Percy Sledge Del Shannon The Dixie Cups Not Inducted John Mellencamp (missed 4times in votes) Chicago (WTF??) Hall and Oates (biggest duo of all time) Heart (greatest ROCK female singer ever ANN WILSON) Joan Jett Pat Benatar etc.... The Hall is missing way too many and has way to many that were "Grandfathered in". And yes to all those acts you named... why aren't they inducted, especially Joan Jett and Pat Benatar - the two legendary ladies of rock?

Etta and the others you mentioned seem pretty safe by today's standards. Frankly, so is Natalie...She's not exactly Millie Jackson!

But, Natalie should definitely be inducted. I'd been thinking about that for awhile now.

While I think she's great and wouldn't mind her being inducted, she's pretty run-of-the-mill as far as her material, and she's never going to be considered a "legend"... "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran
