It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Miles

Partly as I don't know how to post pictures on this site biggrin - Here's a few reflections of my own on this 37th eek anniversary -

Even tho he passed away before I was born, I feel sad at the loss of so great an artist. Without being OTT, many other artists who died early had most likely done their great work, but Hendrix presents perhaps THE biggest 'What might have been?' of them all, in some ways.

Yes, he was human, a confused, vulnerable young man in many ways, it seems. But even with everything he left us (more great stuff than many artists with careers five times the length of his), it would have been amazing to see what he might have accomplished and indeed failed to accomplish were he alive today.
Just to have seen how he would have developed, in the changing musical and cultural climates that have come and gone since 1970. Instead, he is suspended, like a butterfly in amber, in the late '60s counterculture alone.

Even though he never recorded them, I miss those recordings he could/ should have made with people like Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Stevie Wonder and my dream blues collaboration between Jimi and John Lee Hooker (I believe they jammed once with a ton of other folks, but not the same as a semi-structured. live in the studio get-together.) cool.

Alongside Louis Armstrong and possibly Charlie Parker, Jimi is imo the greatest instrumentalist in popular music of the 20th century (for reasons familiar to most people reading this, I'd guess smile), which is why I feel his absence all the more keenly as a music fan. And to have accomplished this feat in a matter of four years and then check out is amazing in and of itself.

But then 'real life' gets in the way, and he died so stupid and pointless a death...

Anyway, I've said enough. So much has already been said about Jimi, but there still seem to be a few things left unsaid. As it should be. The music's all that matters. And we can still hear Jimi's side of things on some of those great songs and solos of his.

Where's my copy of 'Electric Ladyland'? smile

I wish I could go back in time and see Jimi hendrix play.

Better yet, i wish i could go to the planet Jimi hendrix was born on,

cos it sure wasn't planet earth.

Jimi was from a different planet from everyone, A planet where genius only exists.

Greatest of all time, unbelievable, and only in his 20's when he went back to his planet.

The fact remains. Jimi is the guy who made Eric Clapton shit his pants, and the guy who made Santana retire for a few years, just from them watching him play.

I'll sound really old (in early 20s as well biggrin ) but kids these days rant and rave about every guitarist being the 'best guitarist ever' - including charisma and technique nobody can beat Jimi in my opinion.

I once had an argument with a friend about Jimmy Page and Jimi - sorry but though Page is excellent, he does NOT have an ounce of Jimi's presence.

Definitely out of this world and WHY is he not played on the radio more often?

You said it brother! A true inspiration for both rock and funk acts like Led Zep, Bar Kays, and some dude named P! He did more with one record than most "so-called" artists have done in a lifetime. And as far today's acts are concerned "
lol " Don't make me laugh!

Janis Joplin 1/17/43 ~ 10/4/70

Jimi Hendrix 11/27/72 ~ 9/18/70

Jim Morrison 10/8/43 ~ 3/4/71

Stunning, shocking and incredibly sad deaths. They took us from our innocent adolesence to a place where we understood our mortality. Especially when preceded by the assasinations of John F. Kennedy. Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy and the personal losses we were all feeling on the home front as the Vietnam War grew in strength and casualties. I close my eyes and I am there.

I'm 16 and I miss him. He was one of the most brilliant, cool human beings ever. And he was the best guitarist ever. Period. I love Jimi. I wish I could go back in time and see him live, it musta been beautiful.
A man like this will never truly die. He is like a star, some of them died countless years ago, but you can still see their light in the night sky. Thats Jimi.

If you listen to the British invasion bands, Jimi was a defining moment in their evolution. There's before Hendrix and then there's after Hendrix.

Funny....I have been listening to this song numerous times for the past two weeks...and didn't realize that it was close to the anniversary of his passing.

The first sustained notes of this solo is so in your face emotionally with his phrasing... absolutely brilliant...it's my favorite guitar solo by far.
