WTF? Maya Rudolph Is The Daughter Of Minni Riperton? Is this true? And if so, how come nobody told me?
From wiki: Rudolph is the daughter of the late African American soul singer Minnie Riperton and Jewish American composer, songwriter and producer Richard Rudolph. She was in the studio with her mother on the day Riperton recorded "Lovin' You"; one can hear her mother sing "Maya, Maya, Maya" to her near the end of the track. Growing up biracial and losing her mother at a young age had an effect, according to a July 2001 Rosie magazine article: "My mom was black and my dad is Jewish, and I lost my mom when I was seven. That made me feel really different from other kids." Space for sale...

holy batsh*t this is getting creepier by the moment...Maya is dating Paul Thomas Anderson? Director of Magnolia and Boogie Nights?
That means Maya is Pearl's mom? ---And when I Wendy & Lisa called Paul and played "Mother of Pearl" for his wife during one of their Largo shows I attended, it was Maya Rudolph on the other end of the phone? Wow!!! Too much for this early on a Sunday.... okay...as you were. Space for sale...

I remember Maya as a little girl and her brother, I think his name was Christopher and her dad Richard (Dick)--I think he's a producer. I remember being a kid and wondering what would happen to them after their mom died.
Her being Minnie's daughter just seemed to be one of those things that was known. I don't remember actually finding out. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Yep, she sure is. It's not a secret and it's well known in the ol' school african american community who came up in the 70's. Don't know if any of the younger generations know or even care. "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

Yeppers, it's old news. SNL even had her pops come on there for Mother's Day a few seasons back. Minnie also sings "Maya, Maya, Maya, Maya" during the last few bars of "Lovin' You." nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

"Lovin' You" was originally a lullaby for Maya.
Listen to the end where Minnie sings her name Maya though resents talking about her mom. She was angry for her mom's passing for a long time, she didn't really came in good terms with it untill she was in college(quoting her words). [Edited 9/16/07 13:55pm]

Yes, last year at Conclave some of the Sisters, myself included, went to Minni's grave and sang her song. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna
