I like Leela's voice & I have her album, I dig a good number of her songs.

Don't have anything by Joss & don't see what the big deal is about her, so I have go w/ Leela while admitting that I don't know Joss' stuff well enough shrug
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

The first time I hear her voice on radio I thought she was white.

What sounding white is :

We, African americans, have an accent that makes black artists sound different... Even more when we sing soul music... That's why white soul singers have a hard time to sound just like black soul singers...

This accent makes you sound black...

And when white artists try to emulate this accent, they sound fake, not natural...

That's why I said she sounds white, she doesn't have the typical african american accent when she sings...

So, instead of putting her in a box according to your definition of what Black sounds like, maybe you could just THINK about expanding the "sounds Black" definition for yourself. I mean REALLY hammer

& use of the word "typical" is interesting in more ways than one neutral

In one thread you make complete sense (MJ thread about blacks not being international stars like their white counterparts) and then you show up in another and just completely annihilate any sense you had. lol

I don't have either of their albums, but have heard both of them sing.

I like Leela's voice better than Joss. However, I don't have a problem with Joss' voice I think it's nice... just not better than Leela's.

I have a few songs by Leela. Joss has always reminded me a young girl trying to sound like an experienced woman. Her emotion doesn’t sound authentic to me. Don’t care much for the songs I’ve heard.

I've never heard Leela James, but some of the comments here are so illogical that I have to respond. Here are the facts. We live in a politically correct age. That's a good thing in many ways, but one consequence of it is that we sometimes bury our heads in the sand and try and deny that any differences exist between blacks and whites. The fact is black and white people do generally have different sounding voices. Now of course there are exceptions, but generally speaking you can usually recognise a black or a white voice when you hear it. Many white singers like Rod Stewart are very open about the fact that they try to "sound black". Some succeed more than others. Dusty Springfield is an example of someone who totally succeeds. Someone like Elvis doesn't really sound black if the truth be told but he does a credible approximation. Then there are others who fail utterly, but still manage to con the ignorant. So, as much total shit as he talks elsewhere, I have to say I agree with krayzie on this one, although I pass no comment on Leela James as I've never seen or heard her.
